After being overlooked in 2005 and 2006, rap pioneers Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this month.

The honor means they will be the first ever hip-hop artists accepted into the symbolic institution.

Def Jam president Jay-Z will induct the group at the ceremony, which will air live in the US on VH1 on March 12.

The group are being honored for their early contributions to hip-hop, including their groundbreaking song “The Message,” and pioneering the use of two turntables and a mixer.
