We came across an article from DNRNews.com about how young men’s denim is toning down for next year’s spring season:

“For most retailers, [this trend] spells out the end of ‘garanimals’ – denim designs that match exactly to a t-shirt, hoodie and pair of shoes,” the article says.

Some interesting examples are noted:

*Mecca says their spring 2008 collection will feature only subtle detailing on botttoms.

*Pepe Jeans will focus on five “signature jeans”, each with a simple back pocket embroidery that “complements” the rest of a similarly themed collection.

*Phat Farm‘s XV Spring 2008 line sees the detail placed on the inside of a reversible jean, under the cuff, around the pocket edges or on the bottom of the leg.

*Akademiks has placed designs under pocket flaps or on the inside of the waistband.

*Avirex has utilized a Japanese design group for their spring 2008 collection, including similarly themed images on both a track jacket and jean pocket, for example, but using different graphics.

*Coogi are sticking to what they know, with the brand’s president, Pamela Weisfeld, saying spring 2008 will remain “all about the embroideries and the embellishments and the hooks.” She says, “I’m not saying that is the case for the market in general, but for Coogi it remains, because it makes us stand out.”

  • are people still caring about denim and the back pocket of jeans like that? I thought that was dead like 2 or 3 seasons ago?

  • All that is dead…for real..most of the brands that made that popular are also in the graveyard.

  • ITS THE RISE OF THE UNDEGROUND.
PEOPLE ARE EMBRACING NEW SMALLER LINES, AND ITS CUTTING INTO THE MARKET SHARE THAT BIG BRANDS HAD A HOLD OF.

MAKE WAY FOR THE UNDERGROUND LABELS IN 2008

I agree completely with FASHIONHUSTLER. I see alot of people wearing clothes from companies that I have never even heard of. It makes them stand out more, instead of just going with all the big names out there. Like you said also, alot of these smaller, underground brands are slowly gaining popularity, and I guess taking profits away from the big names.
