BET’s Baldwin Hills – are you watching?
BET has set out to reintroduce the young, positive Black characters into mainstream TV with its new reality show, Baldwin Hills.
The introduction starts out by saying “Not all Black people live in the ghetto” and the show serves to prove this by documenting the day-to-day drama 11 young African-Americans.
The teens are living it up in Los Angeles’s privileged Baldwin Hills area, home to affluent Black lawyers, doctors, entertainers, and athletes.
From throwing exclusive pool parties to rockin’ expensive clothes, these kids fit right in with the new young, fly, and flashy generation – but is this representation really changing the image of young Black America?
Is this show more than just the Black version of MTV’s Laguna Beach? The show’s headline insists “Your dreams are their reality” – what do you think?
