Tasha, ur list is f*uked up. Em and Nas are probably two of the top 5 ever, and 50 had some GREAT songs on “Power Of The Dollar”. Redman is arguably top 20, maybe 15 of all time. Kanye can also be great at times, ever heard “jesus walks” and “roses”? I cant make a list of the worst rappers, no1 can, but I can list some rappers who I dont really like.

“The 10 worst rappers”? Let’s get serious. Why don’t we focus on something positive like the “10 best rappers” instead. Alot of these people work very hard, and witness entirely too much criticism anyways due to paparazzi, and various media organizations. Why not focus on the good instead. That may be a better choice. Anyway there so much rappers I don’t like. And I am not sure in some cases if they can be considered to be rappers. I mean to call someone a MC there shall be some minimal standards. Like P Diddy, he doesnt write rhymes, his delivery is crap- he isn’t a MC.
There could be list with cats that not even worth be titled MC.
This is an interesting thread, it truly depicts the different demographics out there. Unfortunately I have to agree with a few of the earlier posts, there is no structure to base this debate on. People are confusing rap with hip hop and their age and geographical location is playing a major factor in their decision process. When I grew up there was 2 camps “Public Enemy” for the harder gangster wanna be and then “Boogie Down Productions” who were spreading the word. It was obvious who won that showdown as BDP faded into a less popular KRS-1 solo career. Being in Canada I didn’t get to listen to a lot of “Redman” or “Eric B and Rakim”. Run DMC was fantastic and they were also pioneers, they forged a market for all the before mentioned artists in this thread, (loosely translated) “They created the game Yo!” :O) Doug E Fresh was fun and I love hearing his sound bites all throughout todays music, 2 live Crew & NWA were huge (we couldn’t believe what they were saying). Being a white suburban kid I loved Vanilla Ice, the songs were catchy and I could relate, I don’t blame the puppet I blame the puppet master. Young MC was huge, Rob Bass was homegrown. I don’t know why but everyone had an MC Hammer cassette, they wished they could hammer dance and get a pair of those ridiculous pants (I had a cassette) Rap got angry and full of hate when Big and Pac came along. The whole East vs. West seemed so contrived just like the Vanilla Ice drama.
I couldn’t listen to music that preached hate towards me, I understood that things were horrible in Compton and parts of the USA and I would never deny their skills but I tuned out. Because of this, I missed groups like WuTang and the Roots and even some of Nas’ stuff. Being old and having this resurgence of rap and hip hop, I could really see “The Game” and it was cheap. Then Eminem & Dre showed up on the Grammy’s and this dorky looking white boy with lights all over his shirt started rapping – he had me out of my seat in moments. This kids rhymes were the best I had ever heard by far, he was amazing. I imagine it was like seeing Elvis for the first time. I tuned back in.
When a singer adds a line of spoken word or rap to a song he/she is not a rapper their just artistically changing it up take it as a compliment to rap and hip hop. If someone is a Rap Clown or sidekick like Flavr Flav or Humpty (remember him?) they’re not rappers they support the show and do a good job. I notice that most people’s lists began in the late nineties with the exception of Big and Pac maybe. From my perspective I see a lot of people who fell prey to “The Game” of rap. From Boogie Down Productions (KRS-1) all the way to Eminem I found truth and moral conviction didn’t have to be sissy and from this I can’t condone the hate and fear mongering that’s used to sell records. Know who you are and listen to the music that best interests you, everyone’s aloud an opinion as long as it doesn’t oppress another person’s. “Jesus Walks” like Kanye says and “he carries a big ol’ stick” Be nice to each other, we’re in this together.
