David Banner goes off on Al Sharpton
David Banner
Legendary civil rights activist, the Reverend Al Sharpton, organized protests across America last week calling for the end of the government’s funding of the music industry, unless “rap artists clean up their act.”
Hip-hop website SOHH.com interviewed David Banner about Sharpton’s demands, in particular his calling for the removal of the words “b**ch”, “ni**a” and “h*” from the music.
Banner said the following:
“The next time you see Al Sharpton, tell him I said @#*$ him and he can suck my d**k,” an animated David Banner exclaimed.
“I might change the name of my album from The Greatest Story Never Told to F#*k Al Sharpton. I hate Al Sharpton. This is the kind of s**t that I’m talking about. They’re killing kids in New Jersey and all across the country and all a muthaf***a got to talk about is rap lyrics? F**k that about they’re our elders and we gotta respect them. I’m tired of this. They’re like the parents, but the parents are crucifying the kids.
“They tried to crucify Nelly and Akon…we need to come together because they’re only doing this because we’re not saying anything,” Banner added. “He’s [Sharpton] a permed-out pimp. Him and Jesse Jackson are out here charging people to do rallies with them. They’re more worried about their investors than our kids. Tell him David Banner said it.”
“Muthaf***as talk a good game about we need to clean up the ‘hood and the lyrics and all that. But I’m out here doing it. Who can say that?”
Strong words – do you agree with David Banner?

Preach brotha preach. totally agree with David. He gives back to the community but its neva reconized. what has Al Sharpton dont for me lately. NOTHIN!
thats what al sharpton is taling abt. David banner could have gone about it another way. perhaps a more professional way. Kids see that and think is okay to curse out whoever disagrees with them. Al sharpton isn’t very effective either. all he does is anger already angry black people.lol.
Word, fuck al sharpton
i feel david banner is justified in being angry, but the the way he chose to display is anger is unjustified AND COUNTER productive. From what i hear from david banner most of the time is a certain level of intelligence and i think he is capable of bringing the necesary people together to argue the issue in more effectivly than this. the industry needs it
I feel that David is correct cbout Al, David is from MS, and he has seen alot of hard times and for him to get this far and have some one like Al come try and bring the power down that he has worked so hard for..And by the way what in the Hell does Al do besides make the black community more angry and when they get angry where in the HELL is Sharpton then ,far, far ,far away,Al knows that this is the Music industry job to sell there music ,just like the BULLSHIT lies that he preches about to get an offering (Kinda like the same game HUH?)By the way David is very intelligent and should have address this better than the foul words that he came off with , this just goes to show that the Al Sharpton has just got another BLACK man in the comnunity mad as HELL and there is still nothing done about it …
I F33L DAT AL SHARPTON IS RIT3…….. D3Y SHOULDNT B3 CALLIN D33Z F3MAL3S ALL D33Z BAD NAM3S………….CUZ IF A NIGGA DISR3SP3CTED D3Y GURL OR WIF3 D3Y GONNA WANNA FIGHT OR KILL A BROTHA!!!
I agree with both, rap artists need to clean up their lyrics, but him always whining and shyt about it isn’t solving anything. The only way it’s going to get solved is if everyone wants to clean it up and then that’s how… not by Al Sharpton b*tchin about it all the time and definitely not by David Banner cussing out Al Sharpton… there has to be a happy medium (by the way Al needs to cut that hair or something off it’s lookin like a tacky Katt Williams).
African american are seen by our society as the less intelligent race. It disgusts me when celebrities such as Banner respond to criticism with profanity rather a solid argument. I experienced atrocities and grew up poor but i didn’t respond by spewing poison and degrading an entire gender of human beings. Thats a cop out. If David Banner does give back to the community, he cancels out his own efforts when his lyrics influence the next generation of men rip seams in the foundation of his own race. Al may not be effective, but he most certainly is correct. rap artist could sell their music without being disrespectful. in fact that would prove them to be more talented lrycists.
yo, if you agreed wit al then you a pussy straight up. rappers is out there rappin shit i can relate to. 50 say he got a 16 gauge im like shit i do to. Lil Wayne say he get money by sellin crack shit i do to. and its not my choice its somethin i gotta do to survive. they helpin me get through my day easier so im wit david banner. fuck al !
oh yea and ris k, u on al diick so get off u like biitch! hahaha pussy
oh yea and ris k, u on al diick so get off u lil’ biitch! hahaha pussy
BANNER IS ALWAYS DOING GOOD FOR HIS PEOPLE. DID U SEE HOW HE HELP CLEAN UP MISSISSIPPI. DID U SEE HOW HE HELP CLEAN UP LOUISIANA. HE IS A TRUE ACTIVIST. THE KEY WORD IN ACTIVIST IS ACT. AL SHARPTON NEEDS TO CHILL. NOT EVERY GIRL IS A BITCH. NOT EVERY GIRL IS A HOE. PARENTS SHOULD MONITER WHAT THEIR CHILDEN ARE LISTING TO. AND EVALUATE WHO THEIR ROLE MODELS ARE BEFORE THEY BLAME HIP HOP. HIP HOP CANT ALWAYS BE THE SCAPEGOAT.
WOW SUM1 WANT SUM ATTENTION BUT HE NOT SUCH A LIL GODDIE GOODIE CUZ IN HIZ SONG PLAY HE WUZ TLKIN BOUT GETTIN GIRL WET N SH!T SO HE NEED TO BACK OFF AL YO
ima keep this short. i dont like al or jessie but by david responding like he did… its only proving al’a theory correct. if you think its right to refer to the people (women) who bring you pleasure btches and “h0es” than you need a reality check.
I AGREE WITH DAVID. THE FIRST TIME I HEARD SOMEONE CURSE WAS IN SCHOOL AND IT WAS MY TEACHER. I GREW UP LISTENING TO HIP HOP BUT I DON’T GO OUT SHOOTING, CLUBBING, AND DRINKING. IT’S UP TO PARENTS TO TEACH THEIR KIDS THAT YOU DON’T DO WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING. DON’T BLAME CELEBRITIES, IT’S THIER LIFE, NONE OF THEM SIGNED AN AGREEMENT SAYING THAT THEY WOULD BE ROLE MODELS. ALL THAT STARTS AT HOME. REALITY CHECK TO YOUR KIDS BECAUSE NO ONE HAS A GUN TO THEIR HEADS TELLING THEM WHAT TO DO.
ONE LAST COMMENT, WOMEN PUT THEIR SELF OUT THERE TO BE CALLED THOSE NAMES. NO ONE TOLD THEM TO SUCK A D**K TO BE IN THE NEXT VIDEO. NO ONE TOLD WOMEN TO USE THEIR BODY TO GET WHAT THEY WANT. NO ONE TOLD THEM TO MAKE PORN MOVIES THAT YOU PROBABLY WATCH. IF A HO IS A HO THEN IT IS WHAT IT ID. IF A WOMAN GETS OFFENDED THEN SHE IS WEAK MINDED. I’M A WOMAN AND IT DOESN’T BOTHER ME BECAUSE I’M NOT OUT HERE DOING HO ACTIVITIES. EVERY MAN MEETS DIFFERENT TYPE OF WOMEN AND THE SONG IS BASED ON THAT. BEFORE AL TELLS MEN TO STOP WITH THE NAMES, HE SHOULD TALK TO THE WOMEN FIRST!
DREDZ you are an idiot. maybe you should spend less time on blogs and more in a library. If you want to insult me, read my entire comment first because obviously you got lost somewhere. It went over your head. No women is a ho period, and maybe if some of you critics would spend more time enlightening these young ladies then maybe this wouldn’t be a problem NYTCE. Celebrities are role models. It comes with the job. They influence culture. Its why they get paid so much to do so little. Every child dosen’t have parents to guide them or instill integrity in them. Most of these ladies didn’t have a solid family unit.
For all the defenders of hip hop. Cleaning rap up isn’t using it as a scapegoat. No one blames the entirety of this degenerative culture on hip hop. Cleaning up rap is a start. These men and women are supposed to be artists, but somewhere the line between intergrity and talent got blurred. Russell Simmons blames it on their impoverished upbringing. Even he doesn’t defend, rather he made excuses for it, proving he acknowledeged there was a problem. Alot of us grew up with nothing, and came out better for it. Decentcy is free. These people know they are wrong. Stop making excuse for them. Those” hoes” and “bitches” are somebodies sister or daughter. Your actions don’t make you who you are, but rather reflect an image of who you believe yourself to be. Unfortunately sometimes thats misconstrued by your life experiences.
i agree with david but he could have chosen a better way to say what he meant and parents should monitore what there kids are listineg to and make sure they know what bitch and ho and other words mean and hopefully teach em not to use them
I understand Banner’s frustration, but this outburst is distasteful. Al’s attempt to go to the music industry as opposed to the artists FIRST is seriously twisted. I see Banner as a man who has no problem speaking to the issues, but at the same time I feel that he perhaps is flawed by feeling the need to defend every action. I recognize that flaw within myself as well. Our [black] leaders suffer what every leader will suffer from…being human. As long as these leaders continue to make less-than-effective decisions, the remaining “followers” will only want to oust said leaders. Back on Banner’s reaction, it is direct and to the point but as many of you have already mentioned, it does not help the argument. F&ck u and S&ck my dyck are closing statements rather than an invitation for dialogue. As a representative of Mississippi, I would like to see Banner do more, but I’m here in internet world and not directly supporting him.
You guys are either crazy or stupid. You tell me we would be discussing this issue if David Banner didn’t respond the way he did? I’m sorry, but no one wants to hear anything intellictual from a black person. That’s why Nas has to do all kinds of publicity stunts to sell albums. The problem isn’t the artist. It’s us, because we promote it. In the last ten years rap has been nothing but trash. We went from “If I ruled the world” to “shake your ass like a salt shaker”. Pac and Biggie must be looking at us from heaven like: “What the F#@k?! Even Jay-z said he wish he could rap like comomn sense, but it don’t make common sense. I’m sorry guys, but african americans are doomed until they listen to Bill Cosby. I know…the truth hurts.
