Mos Def rallies for the Jena 6

Unlike many others in the entertainment industry, Mos Def doesn’t just speak about social issues – he acts on them.
According to XXLmag.com, Brooklyn-born rapper/actor/activist Mos is heading to the town of Jena, Louisiana on September 20 to show his support for the “Jena 6″.
The Jena 6 are a group of African-American students whose legal plight has made big headlines in the past weeks (for the full story, read our previous blog post).
Mos Def is calling on influential African-Americans to join him in Jena, or otherwise show support for the six students.

I am so proud of u ! please take as many people u can to Jena or tell all the people that will listen in the entertainment business. We as a people much band together ! Oprah cannot do it all. God bless us all.
Mos Def has always been a stand up brotha….he is a smart young brotha and isnt afraid to get in there and take action. We need more like him.
Now i want to see the same type of action from all these so called leaders that have been so busy blaming all of todays problem on hip hop.
If anyone who is reading this is interested, we will be holding a local protest/rally in Brooklyn, NY for those of us who are unable to travel down to Jena but want to stand in solidarity with those who will be marching. It will be at 9am EST at Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon St in New York and is being hosted by Assemblyman Karim Camara, Friends of Justice, and National Action Network.

BLACK FOLKS CAN NOT START HELPING ANYONE UNTIL WE START HELPING OURSELVES! IT IS EASIER TO SIT BACK AND NOT DO ANYTHING WHILE U COMPLAIN ABOUT A PROBLEM THAN IT IS TO ACTUALLY GET A PLAN OF ACTION! DON’T RALLY ON TODAY AND GET DRUNK, HIGH, AND DISRESPECT YOURSELVES TOMORROW BECAUSE THAT IS NOT CHANGE. CHANGE IS STEPPING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND EMPOWERING, LEARNING AND SELF EXAMINING YOURSELF!” WANT PEOPLE TO STOP LOOKING AT US IN A NEGATIVE LIGHT??? START BEING DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS AND START CLEANING UP YOUR OWN LIVES!
