Last night was the official launch of WEEN – Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network.

WEEN was created by the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network’s (HSAN) Managing Director, Valeisha Butterfield, in response to the often negative image of women in music and entertainment.

The launch attracted a number of very high-profile people – HSAN’s Russell Simmons and Dr. Benjamin Chavis, lawyer/TV personality Lauren Lake, TVOne boss Cathy Hughes, fashion icon Bethann Hardison, celebrity lawyer L. Londell McMillan, singer Mya, radio host Egypt, BET’s Rocsi and Terrence J and many more.

WEEN is a very important initiative, urging women of all cultures to take back responsibility for the way they are portrayed in music, film, media and more.

WEEN’s tagline is “One Million Strong”, signifying the committee’s hope to sign up one million women across the world in the next year.

More good news for my sneakerheads. After the release earlier this year of the Air Tech Challenge, Nike is rumored to be retroing the Air Tech Challenge II in the old school Agassi pink colorway and the Air Tech Challenge lows. Look for these to be retro’d in Sping/Summer 08′
