Is Barack Obama on his way to being America’s next President?
Barack Obama
Yesterday Barack Obama won the first nominating contest for the 2008 US presidential elections – the important Iowa caucus.
He beat Democrat rivals Hillary Clinton and John Edwards, achieving a major step in his aspirational journey to become the first black president of America.
Barack told a cheering crowd in Des Moines, Iowa: “They said this day would never come.
“They said our sights were set too high…years from now, you’ll look back and you’ll say that this was the moment, this was the place where America remembered what it means to hope.”
How much of a chance do you think Barack Obama has to become America’s next president?

Unfortunately, he has a better chance of being assasinated if he does become president. Don’t get me wrong, I love Obama, but this America is not ready for the first black president. The Aries will not stand for it and will take action. It’s a win loose situation.
I agree with kenny and racism is on tha high rite now!!! Anytime America gets in a crisis racial tension starts to rise!!! Look at tha USA not enough jobs, we at war, people losing homes, so people start to point fingers you start to think because One Black or White person is doing good its their Whole Race holding you back!!! But in realilty all of us are doing bad until we start standing up for ourselves and letting the real voices be heard we are going to continue to fall behind!!! Politians are for rich people and if you arent rich Barack, or Hillary are anyone you put in office can relate to you!!! They dont understand single parent homes, living paycheck to paycheck, cost of living going up but your pay at work stays tha same!!! There are more poor and middle class people in the USA but only tha rich make tha laws and affect our way living!!! Time to close tha gap between tha rich and the working class.Power to the Real People!!! wat up Will

I agree with racism issue in USA, actually its everywhere, but if Obama win! he will have a few years to show what he is capable of, if he pass these years I believe that he will be ok, and after that his main challenge will be we ( black people ) he will be the american president and I am hoping that black people will not believe that black president means better status for black americans, to better our status in here doesn’t depend in just one person but on each one of us…
try to help yourself before expect somebody else help (#1 Survival skills )

I am a supporter of Obama and am so happy!!! I thought this day would never come! I thought Hilary would win but this is even better!!! And we really need to work on fixing our racism..
WATTUP m2resles n u DAMN RIGHT! PERFECTLY SAID MY DUDE…I ALSO AGREE WIT KENNY…I DON’T HAVE 2 SAY ANYTHING CUZ BOTH OFYA ALREADY DID THE TALKIN 4 ME…LOL…VOTE 4 OBAMA MY PPL!!!
As long as we keep doubting if he’ll become President than thats exactly what will happen.
All I gotta say is if he becomes president he better take the same precautions as bush. I think he would make a good president. Then again we’ll see when he makes it.
Rise up 4 Obama!! Ima sho get my vote on…..n if you think bout it, Bush maybe has more haters then racists against Obama….n he still alive!! So dont doubt it, be about it n go support ya boy!!
EVERYBODY KEEP SAYING HE GONNA GET ASSASINATED…THATS IGNORANCE..AT FIRST I WAS ALL FOR MY OWN SEX BEING PRESIDENT [HILARY] BUT THEN I REMINED MYSELF OF WHAT DOORS WOULD OPEN IF I VOTE FOR MY RACE FOR PRESIDENT [BORACK]..I THINK HE WOULD MAKE A INCREDIBLE LEADER AND MAYBE WE CAN TAKE OVER THE UNITED STATES INSTEAD OF IT BEING A WHITE DOMINATED COUNTRY..MAYBE IF HE BACOME PRESIDENT THE WHITE PEOPLE WOULD CRY TO US AND FINALLY SAY THE BLACK MAN IS BRINGIN US DOWN…IF WE TAKE OVER THIS COUNTRY LIKE THEY ALWAYS TOOK OVER US. IF U BLACK LIKE A REAL BLACK NOT NO WANNA BEES AND BLACKS TRYNA ACT WHITE AND IGNORANT… VOTE FOR OBAMA~~! CUZ I AM U DIG~
America will never let there be a black president, That’s sad to say but it’s true. When election time comes if he does win we will never know about it. They would rather the president be a woman, than a black man.
I think America is more ready for a Black President than they are for a Woman President. Even if he is elected, I doubt, not sayin it can’t happen, but I doubt he gets assasinated. Think about how many RICH BLACK PEOPLE are gonna be behind him, they’re gonna do their best to keep him in, if he makes it.
NOTE: The following will be controversial and may offend some of you. Nevertheless, it has to be said so here it goes without futher ado.
As a Black man, it ANGERS me to hear other black people say that he will get assassinated and that “The Man” will never ALLOW a black man to be president. Common said it best in his song “Real People” off the 2005 album, Be: “We have to reverse the slave mind and insert the brave mentality.” We MUST stop looking at ourselves in a negative light, doubting our abilities and worth because of the color of our skin and we have to stop waiting for others to APPROVE or ALLOW us to do things. Nobody’s stopping Obama from reaching his goal. There aren’t that many black people in Iowa, and he still won. So that means that whites and others are willing to vote for him. Why, you ask? Not because he looks like them (obviously), but because he SOUNDS and REASONS like them and therefore they BELIEVE in him. Yet we talk about what he won’t be allowed to do?
WE ARE STANDING IN OUR OWN WAY OF REACHING MANY OF THE GOALS (not just president of the US but businesses, education, etc.) WE WANT TO ACCOMPLISH! Let’s deal with the obstacles that we face when we face them, not ANTICIPATE failures before we even try (which, by the way, is sheer lunacy). Or let’s keep it real, and admit that maybe it is WE (Black people) who truly are not ready for a Black president because WE doubt his ability to run the country as good as a white man?
At any rate, if we continue to say that Barack won’t be president, HE WON’T.
And you know what some of you will say? You’ll say “I told you!” and go on with your day, not realizing that your negativity and the negativity of others JUST LIKE YOU is what contributed to such a failure. So for the sake of the whole entire country, I admonish you to GET IT TOGETHER and do it quickly.
We need desperately to start building each other up, and with an opportunity like the one we now face, there cannot be a better time to do so.
Man up people, and vote for Barack Obama. Why? Because if we aren’t courageous enough to support him, it means that we really don’t want things to change and would rather complain about a white man (or woman, in this case) who ruins the country than a black man who improves it and brings all of its citizens together. He can do the job, but only if we allow him the opportunity to do so by voting and supporting him. So once again, VOTE BARACK OBAMA. With a candidate like this, we have no excuse for allowing another George W. Bush-type leader to FURTHER mess this country the HIZNELL up by starting wars for his own personal gain, passing a futile federal mandate that MASQUERADES as education reform, and covering up every CRIME and TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE that he and his colleagues have committed while in office. If we wind up with another incompetent president and a vice president who shoots his lawyer and then receives an apology from that lawyer, it’s ALL OUR FAULT! FOR THE LAST TIME, VOTE BARACK OBAMA! Because after all, hasn’t 8 years of this bull$%!+ been enough?
I’m not a politician and I’m not affiliated with the Obama campaign (formally, although I have donated). I’m simply a black man that wants to be a part of a major historical event in America. Plus I’m absolutely fed up with the current administration and GEORGE W. BUSH! Black folks need to get out of our own way and let this brotha handle his business. If not, then it proves that a MASSA from centuries ago is STILL whippin’ yo @$$, and that’s only because you are allowing him to do so.
Fists in the air, people.
I’m white and I would vote for Obama – we live in the 21st century F**k the color, look on the man not on his skin color… VOTE FOR THE IDEA NOT FOR THE SKIN COLOR OR THE SEX
Ps I hate also Bush and his republican style of politics
Honestly, as much as I want him to win, I really dont think it’ll happen, and like dude said on the 1st post, he would have a bigger chance of gettin assisinated. I kno its white people who arent racist and are going by who they think would run the country better, which HE WOULD, but its still a majority of white people livin in them little hick towns who dont want to see a black man in office, but hey, I think Hilary Clinton gone win and regardless we gone make history this year if either one of them wins. When one of the candidates say they gone take everybody out of Iraq the day they get in office, thats who im voting for.
I feel that it is a conspiracy against Obama already…simply because Michigan has the largest black city in the United States (Detroit), and for the primaries Obama isn’t even on our ballot.
Word up Chris!!!
unfortunately i totally agree with kenny and the same for hilary tho because im sure middle easterners would hate to see a woman president…either way were screwed….
Hey now I’m afro-arab and could care less about what gender, race, or religion the next president has. Presidents aren’t elected they look like they can handle it, but because the people beleive that that person is the best person to improve their lives. I agree with Chris on this 1. We need to stop putting out all this crap that Obama is gonna be assassinated cuz George Bush has a better chance of it happening. Obama seems to be the best candidate to work for me and he inspires me, unlike most of the others.
First off im behind Obama 100% and he has my vote, but people…in reality powerful black men that are for his people somehow ends up dead. Nobody is wishing death on Obama but if he makes it to president im pretty sure there’s gonna be a few attempts on his life, its a coincident that as soon as a black man runs for prez all this racist **** arises. How many attempts Rev Al Sharpton had on his life, the racist folks are not gonna sit back and watch this man run this Country and see black or i should say lower and middle class folks rise to the top….they’re gonna try and bring him down some way or the other. But we as supporters need to be strong and stay strong behind Obama and see that he make it to the top.
it´s time to have a black president
obviously sexyred doesn’t get it. we can’t just pull everyone out of iraq now, we are too deep in this ****. it never ceases to amaze me when people think the solution to all of this ish is to just pull everyone out. so uninformed.
I am for Obama as well!!!
for all that is reading this post i just have to say dont miss out on voting because your to lazy to register or you have other things to do. register and vote, because EVERY VOTE COUNTS. And dont complain if you aint vote and the person you want to win loses, cuz it couldve been dat last vote from you to make them win, so to all……..VOTE
Everybody should know that white people would rather see a white woman than a black man in the office. I dont even understand why a black man would want to run for president in this racist ass country, number one he’s running a high risk of being assassinated the first week, and number 2 he’s a black man, this country was built for white people to live and thrive and be “American” (which nobody black is,and no one really is being that everybody here is from other countries and nations) so why would he want the position that ultimately stands for everything American, or better yet everything racist and greedy. The funny thing is that if he were to win african american communties across America would feel that “Oh we got a leader so now we should unite”feeling, which is bad because why do we need a leader in the first place, we are a culture of people who play directly into the sterotypes about us. Why do we need to wait for one man to tell us how to change our neighborhoods and get jobs? We don’t, the truth is blacks can never unite because even when they did in the 60’s look what happend to Malcolm X, his own brothers killed him because they were jealous. Martin Luther King had it all wrong, why try to get along with the same people who lynched your aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters. Malcolm was intelligent for his militantancy and coupled with the unity of blacks across the nation he had the white people scared. If Malcolm had carried out his original mission there would’ve been a race war in the 60’s and we would’nt be so concerned as to when the day would be that we would see a black man in office, because there would already be one. Why is it now 2008 and inner city ghetto’s have the highest rate of crime and poverty, where most everyone living there is black. That should tell you something right there, blacks will never get along and most likely we will extinct ourselves before we can ever accomplish anything as a race. Sad but true. We can make our neighborhoods safer, schools better and create jobs for ourselves if we could unify and put all of our thoughts together. It takes a village to raise a child and our neighborhoods are dying children, so where was the village? We need to be better parents and role models for our upcoming generation. I was in jail in 2006 and a black inmate showed me a printed out email his brother had sent him, it was from the KKK and it basically thanks us a culture for killing off our future doctors, lawyers and talent. Wake Up people. Obama cant change anything for us, remember all presidents have to shop their ideas and proposals to get laws passed and to get legislatures moving, congress can always veto and cancel them. So if Barack thinks he can create more jobs, the white congress can disagree and then he’s powerless. Anyway I’m just voicing my opinion like it or not but im telling the truth.
You think Obama doesn’t know he might get assassinated??? OF course he does, don’t worry about that. Did people stop following Martin Luther King Jr. because he might have gotten killed. “THE ONLY THING TO FEAR IS FEAR ITSELF.” – FDR
amen to that
I hope Obama is elected into the White House, cause us a people need to see that a black person can achieve something like presidential power. We’ll know that a young black man’s options are more than just the streets or the rap game. And people don’t worry about the man getting assassinated, he wouldn’t of stepped up with0ut knowing the consequences. From what I see, white people really like him. As long you got your people by your side then there’s nothing to worry about. And if the white people with you, u know u doing good.
Man! this Jon P is living in denial, wake up brother, read the America history, who told you that America was build for white people? where those white came from?you as black as the same right has white in this country, white people came from Europe black from Africa, both races contributed in this country, most blacks in the slavery era, so you need to stop thinking this way or you will be stuck where you at and probably go back to jail, just because you out of place
Pay attention Jon P, do not vote on obama because of his Race, vote for what he’s standing
PEACE OUT
amen to that, too.
I was THinking we should have a INDIAN president that will be so hott……..LOL
Damn there is no hope for our future when theres people who cant even get an understanding of what they read, Im not voting for anybody, dont need to I got people like you who do it, and i’m thinking your white as well as Chris J because being black you would understand that this country was built off black, chinese and indian backs, so Im guessing that you’ll also say that when we were taken as slaves we voluntarily contributed to this country. And as far as jail, Im 20, I keep a job, I have my own house not apartment and I have a good girl on my side so saying that I will probably go back to jail for voicing my opinion just makes you stupid, Oh but wait since you love this country so much you already know that freedom of speech is in the constitution, you should just be quiet you’ll be smarter.

Dang Jon P I cannot respect a brotha who says MARTIN LUTHER KING had it all wrong…..u got to be joking right? You talkin bout blacks can never get along…..well maybe you the reason, disrespecting one of the most important civil rights leaders of all time. Why try to get along wit everybody?….cause we all people and it dont matta black white asian hispanic we all gonna have to live wit the rules and policies of our next president.
For that dude Jon P, NR (No Respect), cause how you gonna say some ignorant stuff like that. We tryin to come up, and u say somethin like that. That aint even real dude. How you gonna say MLK was outta place, when he fought for you to live like you do now. Please believe, if it wasn’t for him, that same white man you proppin up, would be the same one to take you outta you thing you call a life. Think homie, Obama doing it for us, at least respect that.
And one more thing, Jon P….
CHRIS J THE GENIUS IS 100% BLACK!
You sound like one of those brothas that likes to blame everything on the “White man.” Of course there are racists out there who want to see us fail and struggle, and people like YOU assist them in doing so with your MENTALITY. Because just like those who discriminate against us, you cannot see yourself or anyone who looks like you actually doing something worthwhile and it shows that you need to know your history.
Plus, you seem to be the only one dumb enough to say that slaves voluntarily contributed to this country. Voluntary slavery?
That’s an oxymoron (look it up), you idiot!
Hit the library, read some Black History, cop a few Nas albums and GET LIFTED!
Ha your a silly person I dont blame anybody for my mistakes, never said I did, maybe your not as intelligent as you think because you would understand from what I wrote the first time all I said was that this country is racist, but I guess you didnt hear about Don Imus, or any of the other racists out here. And where did you read from anything I wrote that I said that blacks cant acheive anything, or that we are failures. You try to make me sound like I hate everything black. You should’nt call yourself a genius because you are a stupid individual, everything I said went over your head, especially since you listen to Nas for upliftment, Nas, the same man talking about shooting other blacks, man you dumb pussy.Just because you get A’s in class does’nt make you a high intellectual, I mean come on Nas will tell you that you’re learning white history in class. But this country is not racist in your nut-ass head. And I’m guessing you’re from the suburbs, If you’re so smart you would be able to tell that I want all blacks to unite from what I wrote the first time, our neighborhoods are’nt bad for no reason, did you ever notice that most of us cant get to college or have good jobs because of poor educational systems in urban areas. Im from north philly, most of us did’nt make it out of high school because the teachers did’nt teach us anything that we did’nt know, whenever they did teach. Maybe in your little neighborhood you ride a big yellow school bus and go to a good school, meanwhile kids in these ghetto’s (which is a state of mind, not a place, but your a genius you know that right?) have to deal with the drugs, the drug addicts, the drug dealers, when that’s all you see how do you anything else? You know how people say you can take the **** out the hood but you cant take the hood out the ****? Some of us overcome that and shine, a lot of us dont. So in conclusion, in order to create a better life for ourselves, espescially those in poor areas, we need to come together as black people, not ****s and rebuild, our unity as people will be the saving grace for us. I remember being in jail, I had a homie from Chester and we were sitting watching everybody from the tier, everybody was making Chi Chi (soup for those who dont know) and we noticed how the white people, being the minority, would come together, every last of them, and share with each other, keeping each other fed. While the brothers were scattered all over the place doing thier own thing. Now this will be the last time I write back, the only time I come on here Is when I buy stuff, but maybe you can evolve your small-mindedness and get a thorough understanding of what Im saying “black man”. Stay White Chris J.
Chris J, I feel you on that fareal, cause of people like Jon P set us back instead of lift up forward. I didn’t read what he said, but the reactions tell me all. You need to stop being so conspiratical and start being appreciative. Have some honor, some respect, some dignity, something.
I jus read what Jon P read, and when you think about it a very little has some truth to it. At some points, as a people we do tend to pull ourselves down, but we look to those tryin to do better and make an attempt to better ourselves. The part of us living in the ghetto is all wrong. It’s not our choice to live in these ghettos, it’s our life and we strive with what we got. That’s what makes us rise to survive in those conditions. Trust me, if it was up to us, black people would be living like the white folks, but since they have so much power over what we do (in general terms), they can shoose to not help those who need help, typically black people. There’s a lot we can do on our own, but if nobody cares to lend and hand when we need it then it’ll go far but not to where it should be. Understand people, if we wasn’t left on our own to figure out society, things would be a lot better and more open to us. The thing about Barack can’t do anything for us, lemme tell u somethin. If he President he can do whatever, but has a limitation to what he can do. Another thing was built-on by black people, because of trials and tribulations, white people just had the power to do what they wanted. Think about it.
For the record, when the things Jon P mentioned are all you see around you, you expand your mind to a new horizon. I come from all that, and just because you come from that doesn’t mean you have to stay in it. Anyway, if we can’t believe that Barack as president can help us, he can’t. Not because he lacks ability but because we lack hope. How can we come together as Black people and change our community if we can’t come together and support/elect a Black president? Why don’t you stay white, Jon P (which, oddly enough is pretty close to the name of a white R&B singer, Jon B).
And is it just me, or did he skip the whole part where I acknowledged the fact that there are racists out there who want to see us struggle?
READ THE WHOLE thing, and then make your reply.
That’s all I ask. Nas is a whole different issue and if you listen to his catalog, the positive seriously outweighs the negative, check the track record if you think not.
Your mind won’t change but thanks for expressing your opinion so that hopefully those who share it will see the ignorance in it and renounce it.
There was some truth to your original post, we should be better role models and we are killing some of our future lawyers, doctors, etc.
But, ISN’T YOUR MENTALITY KILLING ONE OF OUR FUTURE BLACK PRESIDENTS?
I applaud Obama for standing up. It’s time someone does it
i hope so!!!!!!!!!!1
Well spoken Jon P. I completely understand and see your point of view. What is Obama going to do for us minorities that we couldn’t already do for ourselves? All we do is kill ourselves…Black on Black crime! I think that many people reading what you wrote had a misconception of what you were trying to express, but believe it or not I also lived in the “Ghetto”, and I see more people of the same race killing eachother over the dumbest things.
People getting robbed over the new pair of Jordans that just came out, Ipods being snatched from young school kids trying to go home, these kids even get murdered just by looking too damn cute! It came to a point where I knew that I had to leave my neighborhood in order to stay alive because I started to fear for my life and from my own kind!
When all of this is going down where do you think that the president is going to be. What will he do, hire more police officers? They make the situation worse anyway!
All presidents to me are white anyway. Just because your skin is dark it don’t mean you ain’t white at heart. I could use the N.Y.P.D as an example but I ain’t even going there! You have more minority cops picking and killing on their own kind instead of helping us! How does that even happen? This country is just as ****ed up as any other country, once you have power you turn WHITE!
(The term “White” is used for all the people out there who understands what I’m saying by me using that term! I love my white folks, no disrespect but this is White America!)
It seems like every post i read has to do with black people as a whole rather the question at hand. Yes Jon P and chris make valid points but it must be understood that there are more people in this country besides blacks that are being oppressed. Women have been oppressed too. In some fields they make less money than men for the same job title. If this is the case, under some of your assumptions all women should vote for Hilary because she is a women. We need to understand that the president is an executive figure head in a country run by all of us. The president, whether man or women, will make decisions that will effect America as whole. Obama will follow suite. we as a people need to adopt Obama’s courage and proceed to make changes in our community. Vote for a president that shares your ideas about government, not skin color or gender.
No, you’re wrong. It’s not time for a Black president. Women make up the majority of people in this country (on the planet too by the way) African Americans of course deserve real representation in our government but African Americans are still a minority and women have been the majority all along. It is time for the woman’s voice to be heard. I am well aware of the fact that a lot of people are scared to have a woman president. They just might have to deal with her competancy, her intellect, her better vision for America, her success, her power, and her ability. They may have to witness the President of the United States working to PROTECT women. They might have to actually take some responsibility for their involvement in the political process and understanding of the American government for the first time in their lives.
