Looks like Jay-Z is about to make one of his biggest business moves yet.
Apple’s annual Macworld Expo kicks off today in San Francisco, and it’s been widely speculated that company CEO Steve Jobs and the hip-hop mogul are going to announce the launch of the first Apple record label.
Jobs’ state-of-the-company address takes place on Tuesday, and this might be the perfect time to announce Jay’s involvement in Apple’s growing presence in the music industry.
Jay-Z stepped down from his CEO post at Def Jam Records at the end of last year, so the time is right for him to announce his next step. DrJays.com’s resident tech nerd (and DrJays.com Live cameraman) Steve Cordova is waiting in anticipation!

I would hope so, but he just jumped ship at def jam. I dont think anybody noticed any changes in Def Jam under his leadership so it would be hard to tell what he can do with apple. Maybe he can be the man for apple, but I just think about how the Roc fell apart all of a sudden. He don’t gotta worry anyway J hotels are on their way HOV Hotels will be the shit.

No hate but Jay-Z isn’t even taking care of Roc-A-Fella! Its a damn shame! He’s still in all these fake executive positions! Plus, Def Jam President job at the age of 35 was his 1st job EVER! I’m tired of celebrities using their celebrity but aren’t who they say or do what they say! What makes everyone think that his dealings with Apple will change so much when he isn’t applying ANYTHING to his own label! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

I think that Jay-Z has been in the game long enough and that making a move with apple is going to help his career out greatly. Jay-Z is a smart innovative person, his been in business long enough to get the hang of things. As far as the music industry as a whole opening up a new label is going to give new fresh artists to come onto the scene.
What everone needs to recognize is that “Jay-Z” is himself a commodity. At this point is time, corporate association with the “Jay-Z” name, image and persona is the selling point. I mean c’mon folks, do you know how many M.B.A. holders would give an arm for a position like that in a major corporation? In my humble opinion (and this is merely my opinion), image sells and Jay-Z is pimpin’ his image to the fullest. More power to him. But ask yourself this, which is a more interesting headline: “Jay-Z joins as Apple exec,” or “Mr. Sean Carter joins as Apple exec.?”
