According to Nah Right, that’s a line from “Fugitive”, a track from Fat Joe’s upcoming album, Elephant In The Room.
The line addresses Joe’s constant usage of the word in his music.
What do you guys think about Joe (who is of Puerto Rican/Cuban descent) using the word?
Remember back when fellow Puerto Rican-American artist Jennifer Lopez said the word in the “Ain’t It Funny (Remix)”? There was an uproar about it – mainly because she’s seen as more of a “mainstream” artist – and she was widely condemned.
I feel dat don’t nobody have the right to say the N word but that ain’t stopping nobody from sayin it anyway

The word shouldnt be in use by anyone, but I do have a problem with Fat Joe using it…same thing with Khaled I listen to his intros and Im like WTF. Isnt Khaled Arabic or something??? Fat Joe need to cut that **** out, use some other ****.

You have to understand in N.Y. most people of Latin descent use the word. Why you ask the answer is this both Black and Hispanic peoples are minorities because both peoples interact more readily than with other minorities (East Indian, Asian etc.) on a constant basis black people more readily identify with hispanic people and embrace them as black people. Kind of complicated but that’s how it is in N.Y.
I been hearin blck ppl call spanish ppl the n word my whole life, so how can u expect them not to use the word. i dont think any body should use it because its mad disrespectful/ignorant
Don’t see the reason why anybody should use it
People use it because it has more than one meaning to those of us who are authorized by ethnicity and skin color to use it. Fat Joe and DJ Khaled and Pitbull? No, I don’t think they have a right to use it. The word has an ambiguous meaning to us. It can be a term of endearment, a general term of reference, a word that is used to chastise or criticize, or to belittle. That’s why people use it, because believe it or not, many of us know that every time the word is used it’s not necessarily a negative thing. I would like to know why nobody thought this word was ignorant during certain episodes of The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, or back when Richard Pryor or Richard Wright (the author who was born near the turn of the twentieth century and wrote in his autobiography about using the word much in the way it is used by blacks today) were growing up or even at the height of their careers.
But back to the question, Pitbull, Khaled, Fat Joe? HELL NO! Call a Mexican an ese (without being Mexican) and see if you don’t get yo @ss beat. The same rules apply with us.

NOBODY should say the N- word but it’s used so commonly and loosely that I guess it’s hard not to say it.
I’ve always thought about it, and in my opinion, Joe can’t really use it, because he aint one. But on the other side, its the way its use, cuz the person who said the “N” is used in different cultures differently, their right, but we reflect on the US perspective of the meaning. We look at it in the aspect of it being a black person, but its word that really means ignorant. but thas the word with the “er” ending, the late Tupac said the one we use which ends with an “a” is a term for a black man of the streets. But no he shouldn’t use it even though Hispanics and Blacks are kinda the same people jus different. Think about that and go from there.
they didnt go through what we went through and whenever i hear someone of a different descent use the n-word i take offense to that, as if they’re calling me the n-word rather than comin at me in a friendly tone. on the other hand i believe that the n-word is something that needs to stop. when we use the n-word other people around us feel as though it is okay for them to use it which it is not.

Well guys, number one, Fat Joe is a white man, I just know it, everytime he says **** it feels like a white dude just said it. On the other hand he is a rapper from the “hood”, (I dont what hood he’s from looking like the asshole he does in the picture) most rappers say **** it comes with the territory, I can’t really think of any rapper’s besides Em, or Bubba Sparks that dont use the word, Nas does, Jay does, Snoop Does, Lupe Does sometimes, it seems like it’s all part of the hip hop culture, just like hot dogs and beer at a ball game. As far as rican’s, mexicans, and others that are’nt white saying the word ****, what’s wrong with it? I know too many Ricans and I feel like they ****s just like me. I guess Im saying in my view, is that anybody that’s brown is a **** just like me. Mexicans, Ricans, Chinese they all struggled and were used to help build this country, whether it be the railroads, the cotton fields, or cheap labor at your local restaurants, I feel like we’ve all struggled and why not call each other ****? Truthfully the word should’n t be used at all, it’s derogatory and it brings back a time when it had “er” on the end, and sometimes it feels like we got so used to be called that name back in the day that we just started calling each other that to identify ourselves, a way of being exclusive, when you say my **** to your black friend around a white guy the white guy just looks like he’s lost in space. Maybe we are ****s (put the er on the end of that one) if we keep calling each other the one with the na on the end.
lets be real for a minute, that word is a hood word. so only certain peoples from the hood look right usin it , ok. you could be a brotha from the suburbs and you will look worng tryin to talk like that, right? but white people in the hood still gotta watch their mouths, white people lost all their **** privelages with the word.

Because of the mixing of heritages you got puertoricans dominicans hatians, black americans, africans. I dont care who uses the word. I use it all the time for anybody, I dont care what race your are. Take it how you wanna take it. If i call u a **** and you get offended by it, then that shows me that you are one.

by not using this word anymore isnt gonna change society. We are all still segregated at the end of the day. We just gotta learn how to live with each other and get along better in this country. There will always be name calling, I dont care what history the word carries.

I’m so sick and tired of some “Black” people ACTING like they can’t move on in life because of the struggles they so called had in the past and how they want reparations for what their ancestors have been put through! What struggles did the last generation go through? I thought slavery ended decades ago!

I have no problem with fat joe saying the “N” word…the truth of the matter, no matter how much we stress the issue of people saying the word, its gonna be said. Most of the people i grew up with and still associate with try to restrict the word to only a certain race. hispanics in my eyes are included because we go through the same BS in the hood. The subject of this blog is whether fat joe should use the n word. Why is this a question. As a black american college student i ask myself why we as a people use this word. Some people make the argument that n***a and n***er are not the same thing but let me ask is player and playa not the same, is baller and balla not the same. Our insistence on assuming a different meaning for a word that we refuse to pronounce correctly is ignorant. The word means the same thing no matter how you spell it. The word refers to people of dark skin. The connatation of this word has changed over recent years but nontheless means the same thing. If you dont want others to use the word then stop using it yourselfs.
