Today marks the twelfth anniversary of the Notorious B.I.G‘s tragic death.
On March 9, 1997, Biggie (real name: Christopher Wallace) was fatally shot by a [still] unknown assailant in Los Angeles, California.
The Brooklyn-born rapper was only 24 years old, leaving behind an estranged wife (Faith Evans), daughter T’Yanna and son Christopher “CJ” Wallace.
Biggie released only two albums: 1994′s Ready To Die and 1997′s posthumous double-disc set Life After Death, released just fifteen days after his death.
Both albums are hip-hop classics, having sold millions of copies worldwide (Life After Death was certified diamond, meaning 10,000,000 units sold, in 2000).
Biggie’s life was celebrated in a major way this year with Notorious, a critically acclaimed biopic starring Jamal “Gravy” Woodard as Biggie, Naturi Naughton as Lil Kim, Derek Luke as Diddy and Angela Bassett as Voletta Wollace.
Check out Brooklyn’s favorite son in “Juicy”, one of his most iconic songs:
Every true rap fan has at least one favorite Biggie track, so what’s yours?

One more chance?
“Juicy” would probably be my favorite, but I also love “Brooklyn’s Finest”, “Sky’s The Limit”, “I Love The Dough”, “One More Chance”, “Hypnotize”, “Mo Money, Mo Problems”…the list goes on.
“Mo Money Mo Problems” ’cause I will NEVER get tired of hearing it, dancing to it and rapping along to it! RIP BIG!
