What makes a selvedge jean unique from the common jean?
As you can see in the above image, selvedge denim has a clean, natural edge that does not unravel. You can see the actual edge of the fabric where the weaving stops and is finished by a shuttle loom.
Common denim is woven on a projectile loom, where the fabric gets cut off at the ends.
The process involved with creating a selvedge jean is more time consuming, resulting in denim of a tighter weave and heavier, durable fabric. Because of this, and the fact that the edges can’t fray, selvedge denim is considered high quality denim.
Shuttle looms create a narrower amount of fabric than projectile looms, therefore more fabric is required to make selvedge jeans.
Most selvedge jeans today are dyed with synthetic indigo, but some premium brands use natural indigo dye, like denim master Evisu.
The old shuttle style looms were replaced with modern projectile looms when the demand for denim increased in the 1950’s. The new looms produce fabric faster and wider, but lighter weight and less durable.
So now you know why you fork over that extra cash for a premium selvedge jean!

Yea its wat you call premium denim that 100.00 denim Evisu made this real popular but material will last forever good selvedge denim is worth every penny you would never buy again they start at 100-150 and get up to 300-1200 try to get jeans that are plain and they will never go out of style no skulls stars etc just plain high price denim and dont wear white shoes they will be ruined AF1s no no

I got hooked on selvedge denim about three years ago and the pairs I bought back then still rock with anything I put with it. And luxurylife you are right about white kicks, but the few times you can wear them together you’ll look fly as hell!!!!

agreed with the other guys up top. i have a pair of ralph lauren bootcut jeans indigo denim theyre expensive but it will ruin a pair of ones also favorite jeans have got to be the levi shrink to fit jeans their classic and look good with a tall tee and ones oh and bape jeans are stiff especially after washing them
if u guys take em to the tailor and get em to put a lining inside the jean it will not rub off on ya sneakers
