Akon wants you to smell like a Konvict
Akon
Since his debut album Trouble in 2004, Akon has worked very hard to secure his place as a R&B/pop icon.
The Atlanta-based entrepreneur, born Aliuane Thiam, recently announced plans to introduce two new scents, Konvict and Aliuane, in the fall.
Both will be produced in partnership with Konvict Cosmetics International, a newly-formed company of which Akon is a partner.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the fragrances will be available on the company’s website from August and industry sources predict combined sales of $25 million in first-year retail sales.
The dubiously titled Konvict fragrance is aimed at a younger customer, while Aliaune is being promoted to an older, more sophisticated customer.
In addition to chart-topping hits like “Locked Up”, “Smack That” and “I Wanna Love You”, Akon also runs the record labels Konvict Music and Kon Live, an apparel company, Konvict Clothing, a charity, Konfidence Foundation, and a reported upcoming reality TV show called My Brother’s Keeper.
