Meet The Cast: Jazz In The Diamond District
Jazz In the Diamond District is a new independent film by Lindsey Christian (nicknamed “Young Oprah”) starring Wood Harris (The Wire, Next Day Air) and Clifton Powell (Friday, Ray).
Boss Lady had the chance to catch up with all three in the DrJays.com offices recently.
Lindsey talked about the journey of making the film, in addition to having Washington DC’s vibrant go-go music scene as the movie’s backdrop.
Clifton talks about the difficulties of getting independent films made, especially by African-Americans and other minorities, but how hugely lucrative the audience is at the same time (“The urban DVD business is a 11.6 billion dollar industry”).
Wood also talks about his current film Next Day Air, and how him and co-stars Mos Def, Donald Faison and Mike Epps and the director Benny Boom decided not to use the “n” word on the set and in the film and people’s reaction to it.
