In Loving Memory: Dolla
Last night music fans were hit with the tragic news that Konvict Music artist Dolla, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot and killed in front of the Beverly Center in Los Angeles.
As of this morning, a male suspect being held in custody, Aubrey Berry, has been charged with murder.
Dolla, 21, was a new artist who hit the scene with his breakout song “Who The F*ck Is That” featuring T-Pain in 2008.
Tragedy shaped his life: his father committed suicide when he was five years old and his sister has been incarcerated for a number of years.
After making moves in the local Atlanta hip-hop scene, Akon signed him to his Konvict Label in 2007.
“He had a very promising career,” Dolla’s publicist Sue Vannasing said yesterday. “He was being hyped as the next Tupac [Shakur]. He chose music to get off the streets.”
Back in June 2008 I had the opportunity to interview him, and although his struggles in life were evident, he was confident things were about to change.
“I’m blessed; the sun is shining on me, even when it’s cold outside”.
Rest in peace Dolla – another life taken much too soon.

Man that sucks… dude died over an altercation on an airplane, airport whatever then the dude followed dolla to the mall and shot him. Then tried to leave by going back to lax. Man people are just on some extraspecial ****assness to pull some **** like this.
At any rate may he rest in peace, it’s a shame that he had to go out like this.
Damn! Another brotha gone too soon…….. RIP
Too many are dying senselessly when change really gonna come?
This is geting ridiculouas. i bet he was shot because the guy didn’t like his music or suhiin stupid like that. It sickens me to see this happenin over the most stupidist things. I think that the person who murdered him didnt realise he was taking away someones life. Hold on let me rephrase that a good rapper!!!
