Jonathan Mannion: Hip-hop’s photographer

Last night the ladies of DrJays.com Live attended photographer Jonathan Mannion’s exhibit in NYC.

Jonathan Mannion and Snoop Dogg
Boss Lady and Kiki enjoyed the works of the Cleveland based photographer, which included Jay-Z’s album cover for Reasonable Doubt, the image of Lil Wayne in the flyer above, a bloody DMX and more.
Mannion began photographing up-and-coming hip hop artists after working for famous photographer Richard Avedon. Since then, he has creatively captured the likes of Nas, 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Notorious B.I.G., Aaliyah, and more.

Your thoughts on his work?

Love Jonathan Mannion. Props for showing and embracing art on your website.
I like the emotion that his pictures capture, it’s not just a good picture. Damn fatjoe lost a gang of weight. And dudes head is blocking part of kiki’s
Great stuff! I was skeptical when I first clicked the link, thinking the guy would just be using hip-hop as a gimmick to cover up less-than-stellar photo skills. Boy, was I wrong! He’s obviously learned a lot from his time with Richard Avedon. This guy’s the real deal. I’m glad there are people like him out there documenting our modern culture for future generations.
