Jay-Z in Stall & Dean

The Stall & Dean company was established all the way back in 1898 by C.H. Dean and W.T. Stall.

With a focus on superior quality athletic goods, the company boasts many collections under it’s umbrella, such as “Ivy League”, “Baseball”, and one of DrJays.com’s newest additions, Rucker.

Kiki got a chance to catch up with the head of marketing, Rikers, and learn more about the brand and his exciting position with the company.

Check it out:

DrJays.com: When did the Rucker brand launch, and what is the concept behind it?

Rikers: Rucker launched its first product line in summer 1999 at Dr. Jay’s retail stores.

The concept of the line goes back to the Rucker basketball tournament started in 1946 by Holcomb Rucker, at the Park on 155th street and Fredrick Douglas Blvd.

In 1999, Chris Rucker (Holcomb Rucker’s grandson) and his partner Dexter Gordon created the brand, and with that the tradition of the Rucker was created again.

DrJays.com: How long have you been with Stall & Dean, and how have you helped the brand thrive during this time?

Rikers: I have been with Stall & Dean/Rucker for over seven years.

My best quality is that I’m a loyal person and I have an sincere love for what I do. I believe in the brands whole heartedly, so this basically makes me operate as the company and I are one. Operating on this principal, I understand the company’s failure is mines and I hate to lose.

DrJays.com: How did you get your start in the fashion industry?

Rikers: I came in more or less on the manufacturing end. People around me just saw and realized my grind and hunger, which caused them to push me to go ahead. My old partner was at PNB Nation (When Mecca owned the brand) and wanted me to work with him in marketing. It just stuck.

DrJays.com: What do you enjoy most about your job?

Rikers: Meeting up and coming artists. They have video/photo shoots in crazy places. I enjoy meeting new people altogether. Also the company is set up so it allows me more time to physically put in leg work, instead of sit behind a desk.

DrJays.com: Any upcoming collaborations with Rucker?

Rikers: Currently we sponsor several high School teams and have our own basketball with Spalding. We are always exploring options that have basketball and youth as the main focus.
