Last week I had the pleasure of participating in a fashion panel for the NBA Rookie Orientation taking place in Upstate New York courtesy of Sean John.

The NBA requires all rookies entering in the league to participate in an orientation to prepare them for what lies ahead once they are a part of the league. This year the NBA invited Sean John to host the fashion segment of the program.

I joined my fellow stylists to the stars Rachel Johnson and Groovey Lew Jones, as well as designer Waraire Boswell, spoke on a panel mediated by Dao-Yi Chow, Byron Kirkland and Raheim Robinson of Sean John.

We were all given different categories of dress like Corporate Meeting, NBA All Star Slam Dunk Competition, On-The-Bench (during a game) and exiting the locker room after a game. We dressed mannequins to exemplify our interpretation of the category. I was assigned the NBA All Star Slam Dunk Competition.

Because NBA All Star is such a fashion show, I chose to do casual but fashionable, comfortable yet not “bummy”. The sweater, button-up, belt, and cotton stretch denim are all by Sean John. I accented the look with a Still Life fedora, American Apparel chambray bow tie, and Yves Saint Laurent patent leather sneakers in order to take it to the next level.

The rookies were split up into teams and were given the same categories as we were to choose what they would wear. The stylist panel critiqued their selections and then went on to explain the thought process behind our outfits.

All in all it was a wonderful experience. Good luck to all the rookies beginning this season. Here are some more behind the scenes shots:
