The Science Behind Lauryn Hill
Lauryn Hill is by far, without a doubt one of the most gifted musicians of our time. With the undeniable Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and the controversial MTV Unplugged No. 2.0, the female voice behind the legendary group The Fugees is respectively one of the best examples for women in mainstream media.
Well, it hasn’t been long since the unforgettable 2007 concert in Brooklyn, where the New Jersey native entertained over 10, 000 fans, awaiting her arrival.
In blazing New York City temperatures, packed subway carts and lines that extended blocks, Lauryn’s set started over 30-minutes late and worst than anything, thousands of people had to sit through Sean Kingston’s opening (which basically turned into covers of popular hip-hop and R&B songs).
I was there.
I watched what had seemed to be over 8,000 people leave the show after the fifth song. The crowd wasn’t feeling it. They couldn’t sing along, the beat patterns had sped up and her overall sound wasn’t the same.
I stayed.
By the end of the show, her voice had exceeded anything that I’ve ever heard, her Bob Marley covers were extraordinary and she’d dropped enough jewels to make Jacob look like a joke. You could tell that she had found a new her.
She stayed in my mind.
As a huge fan of MTV Unplugged, a hardcore fan of her HBO Def Poetry’s “Motives and Thoughts” and as a firm believer in God, I absolutely love and appreciate the message.
I searched YouTube to find videos of her proclaiming Jesus and songs that talked about “losing herself,” the importance of “praise and meditation” along with identifying whom she is destined to be.
I wanted to share with you the reason in which Lauryn Hill probably separated herself from the music industry. I know that Lauryn has found God. We should be excited that she has taken the time out to restore what the Creator has outlined for her.
Sometimes you have to step away from the limelight to evaluate self.
We should be thrilled that Lauryn is hard to find in the days of recession, turmoil and hardships. This means she’s working, praying and studying her purpose and her methods of execution.
The more beautiful, knowledgeable and spiritually bonded she becomes, the more she can share with the world.
