I can't front on you, Boss Lady. You have quite a valid point. The only problem is that you almost never hear from Nas unless his album's coming out. That was true of Stillmatic, God's Son, Street's Disciple, and Hip Hop Is Dead - neither of which really had a charitable cause. I heard him say on an old 106 & Park episode (back when AJ & Free were still there) that he fears the mainstream media, paparazzi, public eye, and the effects that they can have on one's life. It seems that the time has arrived for him to overcome that fear and continuously speak on the charitable causes that rouse him - and to be the face and voice for the many people that his words and albums can impact.

I love Nas like the next hip-hop fan, but what concerns me is the TIMING of his charitable efforts.

His M.O. appears to be release an album, pick up a cause.

Most recently his last album revolved around the "N word" controversy, which lead to his movement against Fox News, etc. As soon as his album was off our "new release" radar so apparently was his public passion for the cause.

Now he's discussing his upcoming album and is almost conveniently behind a new (of course extremely worthy) social discussion.

You hear nary a word from Nas at times other than an album release.

Just an observation...

JayZ did lose that battle but he he did land a sid vicious first blow it put nas on his ass but he got up and went to work. But JayZ did too and now argueably the most powerful man in hiphop.Im not a Nas fan but I respect him and hopefully he can rise from all this turmoil he is in and make a good album in the years to come.

I KNOW that all of my friends at DrJays knew that I would comment about this one. You all were right. Clark Kent, you're the truth - but I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.
Uhh...
When did Nas lose to Jay-Z? I understand that you may be a Hova fan and all, but let's give credit where credit is due. Nas won. Everyone knows that, it's barely disputed. Hova didn't lose his fans, his career, or his prominence in the game. However, Nas, whose drive, skill, talent, and credibility had been tested - rose from the ashes like a phoenix and sent a message to every doubter and naysayer that he hadn't lost his touch. If I'm not mistaken, the Hot 97 poll results crowned Nas the King of New York as well. I would even venture as far as to say that if Nas had truly lost, you wouldn't feel the need to qualify your take on his and Jay-Z's epic and legendary hip hop battle with a parenthetical phrase (...which YOU did...). Nasir Jones is the Greatest of All Time. Hands down.
Had to get that out of the way, I'm a die-hard Nas fan, as everyone who frequents this site knows.
Now to the matter at hand. His verse will likely have to do with who or what he thinks destroyed his marriage (although rumors have it that they are reconciling?). Kelis has been referenced so much in Mr. Jones's music, I know he might want to recant some of the flattering things he has said about her. Hopefully, he will say what he has to say in a classy way - after all, she is the mother of young Knight.
By the way, does this post refer to the Distant Relatives record with Damian Marley or to an upcoming solo project?
