Will.i.am Launches i.am Clothing Line

Will.i.am is getting ready to relaunch his i.am mens clothing line. It’ has been around since 2005 where it has taken on many forms including a denim line called i.am Antik. The collection includes tees, windbreakers, caps and jackets and the official site is still in development with distribution currently limited to boutique stores in Los Angeles.
It seems like practically every celebrity and their mother has their own clothing line these days. Some do well and some fizzle out before you can even see the goods on the shelves. You might not think of will.i.am as someone who would bill himself as a fashion designer. But, if you take a look at him, you’ll see that he generally is a pretty fashionable guy. Plus, he has something lots of other celebrity designers don’t have. An education in fashion. Will.i.am actually attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
OK, so he only attended for one semester before leaving to pursue his career in music, but at least we know the passion has always been there and isn’t just some passing whim. According to Will.i.am, “Music is my first love, but I’ve always been into fashion… I’ve always designed my own clothes for music videos, and I’ve been the stylist for the group. I’m just a creative individual and clothing is just another outlet for that creativity.”
The tagline for Will.i.am’s clothing line: “I am me, you are you, feel good about it.” Sounds perfect!

I don’t feel like this line has any legs, and here’s why: will.i.am’s fan-base isn’t as fashion-forward as he is. Face it: the Black Eyed Peas make pop music for teenage girls and to get placement at and on sporting events. For Will to come with such a progressive fashion line, it’s gonna go over his fan’s heads and the folks that it’s targeted to won’t pick it up because they don’t like will.i.am or anything he does.
