Say It Ain’t So! Nas Owes More Than $2M In Taxes?

Nas
First of all – it’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you (if you can’t finish that line, look the song up, listen, and learn).
I hate to say this, but I have some unfortunate news. Weeks after Method Man’s arrest for failure to pay taxes, it appears that yet another rapper is having similar trouble. Find out more after the jump.
This time it’s God’s Son (just in case the image wasn’t enough of a hint ). The one and only Nas owes over $2,500,000 in unpaid taxes dating back to 2006 and 2007 according to TMZ. This comes a few months after divorce proceedings which had him slated to pay nearly $40,000 a month in alimony and child support payments.
However, it is unclear what has happened with the divorce as Nas and Kelis have been spotted together acting quite friendly towards each other and some reports speculate that they have reconciled. Other reports say that the divorce is still on and that their hearing is scheduled for November 20th.
Some people really seem to have it together until one checks their financial records. Nicolas Cage is also having money troubles as we speak, with reports that he is flat broke even after making about $40 million last year. Damon Dash had a car re-posessed a while back, as did Eddie Griffin more recently. Even Pamela Anderson is said to owe the IRS. Why?
Every situation is different, but it seems that some think they are above the law or that they can hide from the government. The way these people are getting called out, it would certainly seem that George Orwell was right when he famously wrote, “Big Brother is watching.”
As far as Nas is concerned, his troubles most likely began with the divorce filing. Such legal procedures call for all financial information to be disclosed and for all records to be provided – which probably led to the discovery of the delinquent guap.
Sidebar: One of my favorite comedians is “going for broke.” My favorite rapper has now been added to the list. The way things are going, I’d say Shaq is next – he’s my favorite basketball player.
Needless to say, I never thought I’d see the day that Nas would have Uncle Sam singing “You Owe Me.”
” Yeah, owe me back like you owe your tax
Owe me back like forty acres to Blacks
Pay me back when you shake it like that, girl”
I predict that Bill O’Reilly of Fox News will have a field day with this one. Having said that, it is now your turn to weigh in.
What’s with this recent string of celebrity money trouble, specifically in the hip-hop and urban entertainment arena?

Pffffft, I hardly think anything related to Nas warrants mention on any national show that isn’t puff entertainment news.
Yes, yes. You must be right. It would be far fetched to think that Bill O’Reilly would say something about Nas on his show. Hmmm, I wonder what would make me say that. Possibly the public feud the two of them have had for quite a while over the airwaves which prompted Nas to record the song “Sly Fox?” OH YEAH, that’s right! Thanks for the comment, anyhow.
