Black Web 2.0 just got word that former VIBE Magazine editor in chief, Danyel Smith, has stepped down for her post at TheRoot.com after six short weeks. While this may not be news to you fashionistas and divos out here on the internet, the question must be asked, “What’s Danyel Smith to do next?” Let’s find out after the jump.

It was said that Ms. Smith left largely because of her commute between New York and Washington, D.C. where TheRoot.com is based at. I don’t blame her – that trip takes about 4 hours each way.

On top of that it’s about to be winter and although the Bay Area wordsmith has spent quite a few snowy days here in Gotham, I’m sure that trudging through it would’ve been somewhat of a stressful endeavor.

Here’s what TheRoot’s publisher Donna Byrd said to BlackWeb2.0.com:

“We are sad to see her go, but have appreciated her energy and insight and are happy she was a part of The Root family,” Byrd said in a note to the staff. “We are aggressively searching for her replacement and plan to fill the role in the next few weeks.”

With Danyel Smith’s type of resume it won’t be hard for her to land on her feet, but here go a few suggestions if she’s in need of any:

1. Take DanyElliott From The Internets To The Boob Tube:

DanyElliott’s “Take It Personal” podcast is full of witticisms uniquely shared by this literary husband and wife. The tandem tackles topics large and small and if they took their show to the small screen and they would be different than Fatman Scoop and his wife’s show. Being on TV wouldn’t be new to either Danyel or her husband, Elliott Wilson – both have been featured as talking heads for VH1 and other shows over the course of their career.

2. Be A Creative Consultant For Those In Need:

She’ll always be able to find work due to her forward thinking, but what if she were to become a mercenary for hiring. Killing wackness with her imaginary bullets, saving the rest of the world from the tyranny of mediocrity. I’d hire her to take out some foes with the quickness.

3. Get Into Sports Reporting:

oakland1Ananada Lewis left BET for greener pastures at MSNBC… A.J. of 106 & Park fame bounced and went to Access Hollywood. Danyel could easily take up the post talking about football and basketball, two things I’m sure she’s loving now, more than ever, since the Golden State Warriors (4-4) have started off the pre-season with a goal in mind. Hearing the passionate repertoire of Ms. Smith providing color commentary for the NBA alone would make my love affair with the sport grow even more.
