Smashproof: Young Sid, Deach and Tyree

New York City enjoyed quality music from numerous artists last week thanks to the CMJ (College Music Journal) festivities.

Hip-hop acts made their way from across the country to perform, but rap trio Smashproof take the cake for traveling all the way from New Zealand to introduce their street-inspired sound to an American audience.

Signed to Universal Music in NZ (under boutique label Move The Crowd Records), Smashproof are the latest in a growing line of successful local acts (Savage, etc) to make their mark overseas.

Group members Young Sid, Tyree and Deach did two shows throughout the week, performing numerous tracks including their stellar hit “Brother”:

Boss Lady caught up with the group on a rainy night after they performed a very strong show at the Bowery Poetry Club in downtown NYC.

Whipping out the Flip Cam for an impromptu interview, the fellas talk about the emotion behind performing in New York City, how their music paints vivid pictures of tough South Auckland life, and how Young Sid is coping with the recent passing of his mother to cancer.
