Are They Really Pimpin’ Michael Jackson?
First let me state that I am a Michael Jackson fan and I do this not because of any anger or malicious intent, I do this because I see something amidst and I want to know if I’m right or not. Maybe you can help me out? Let’s chat after the jump, shall we?
The late King of Pop’s postmortem movie, This Is It, managed to top the box office with $21.3 million, grossing worldwide an estimated $101 million, according to EURWeb.com.
While Sony is going to extend the film’s domestic run through Thanksgiving, a friend of mines wondered if the powers that be were just capitalizing on MiJac’s passing to put some extra dough in their pockets.
The people’s love for the musician extraordinaire doesn’t seem like it’ll die, but the powers that be are trying to create this hysteria for Michael with the movie and the DVD coming within mere months of each other. According to EURWeb.com, the disc was to be released prior to Christmas, but now it’ll make its debut in late January or early February.
No one knows if Mike would’ve put out a film of just behind the scenes and after completing his tour, he may have just done all of this as his Fade To Black, but the opportunistic nature of Hollywood/Entertainment business, leaves a bad taste in folks mouths. Will they let the fans know how much of this actually goes into the family’s pockets? Will Hollywood allow us to let Michael Jackson rest? Or has the mania just begun?
Think about the estates of your legendary musicians. While they’re still raking in dough (Yves Saint Laurent still makes bank…), they’re left alone to rest in peace. The investigation into whether MJ was murdered is still a touchy subject for those near and dear to the singer/songwriter/dancer, but if Hollywood/Entertainment business continues to peddle product as more becomes clear about the late King of Pop’s circumstances, is it a good thing or is it a pimp still trying to collect money while his “worker” is incapacitated?
