We often overlook musicians and under appreciate artists that create amazing music. Sometimes “dumbing down” seems like the right thing to do – just to fit in. Well some people shift like the continents and some don’t. Nevertheless, I want to introduce you to a new artist.

Well hold on, this post could be a lingering session about how dope this rapper is – but let’s keep it real, in modern day mainstream music, do people really care about how creative someone’s punchlines are?

People want simplicity and they want basic music. Listeners want “party” sounds and a quick visual. I get it. People don’t like “deep” hip-hop. You don’t want to hear complex messages, with intense metaphors and analogies. You simply want similes and a bounce.

Great. There’s this cool artist who doesn’t make you take out your thesaurus, but he makes you feel his music to the point in which you can’t deny it. I have to introduce you guys to an artist by the name of M. Island. He possess the passion of a DMX, the grind of a Lil’ Wayne and the uniqueness of an early-day LL.

Real talk, this New Yorker is dope. The music is refreshing, his style is ill and the music is guaranteed to take you to new heights. I have to admit… he is deep. ::Laughs:: But I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

Check out his latest effort, “Shut Up” featured on the recently released EP, From Darkness 2 Light. The video is directed by Rodolfo Duran (Done Right Digital).

Part memoir, part roller coaster, part motivational speech, ‘From Darkness…’ confesses the strain, evolution and hope for self-mastery many artists would be apprehensive to present to the world. “It’s not easy to reveal all your ups, downs, triumphs and fears,” comments M. Island, “but it’s this very honesty and energy that draws listeners in. At a time when so much music is driven by marketing and has little to do with the artists themselves, I thought it was important to bring something refreshing to the independent arena.”
