Nike Opens Tokyo Flagship Store

Nike opened their long-awaited flagship store in Tokyo’s Harajuku district, one of the city’s street fashion/youth culture meccas, this past weekend.
After years of deliberation and despite the economy still getting back on its feet (Japan is just recovering from recession), the brand is confident the store will receive a warm retail reception.
“Very often in tough economic times, consumers respond to their favorite brands. And our market share has actually grown [both in Japan and worldwide] during tough economic times,” Jeanne Jackson, president of direct-to-consumer for Nike Inc., told Women’s Wear Daily.

On the second floor, shoppers can take advantage of Nike’s largest NikeiD studio in Japan and customize apparel and footwear using computer stations and swatches of fabric and leather.

The third floor houses a “Bootroom,” where customers can individualize soccer cleats in terms of fit, color, material, plate and embroidery.
The flagship is strategically located on Omotesando Avenue near sprawling Yoyogi Park, which is now being used four nights a week by the Tokyo chapter of the Nike Running Club (based inside the store).
