Two winners – one male and one female – will be chosen and announced on Monday, December 7th at approximately 6pm EST.

Please specify whether you are going for the men’s or women’s prize in your comment.

At school I almost let things get the better of me just because I had words with this guy. But I just reminded myself what I had to lose by getting in to it with him. So I just walked away from it.

I remember one time, in high school, remember the drama? Anyway this one girl said something very rude to me about my boyfriend, she said he was ugly and that I’m the only person who would ever date him. I got very upset and was on the verge of a full out brawl, but then thoughts of my parents went through my head, and I thought about what they would do if I hit the girl, so I fought the urge to hit her, even though it was hard. About a week later she ended up apologizing to me, so it was all good.

my stepmom….but she hated me and would call me all these horrible names and made me feel like nothing..my dad would work to jobs and was never home she was such a horrible person and my dad thought she was the best thing that ever happened to him..so instead of being rude and disrespectful back I kept quiet I wanted my dad to be happy since my mom left us.. so for 2years I kept quite…
to make a long story short my dad never found out,, how she treated me and the things she made me do,,they ended breaking up cause he caught her having an affair.
I was so relieved but sad for my dad caused I knew he loved her.. If I would have told him he would have been put in jail for doing something bad to her, but I couldn’t he’s the only one I have..and well I wanted my dad to be happy he desearved it..

I am currently deployed overseas in kuwait as a member of the United States army. Although not very “hippyish” I am serving my second deployment overseas. I served a year in Iraq from 2005-2006. I like to think that by serving I am doing my part in keeping peace, at least in the U.S.

I was relaxing with some friends at my home when my mother yelled and told me to clean my room. I could have easily responded in a disrespectful way, but i chose to be obedient and follow my mother orders.

One time I was at this open mic night and right after I had finished reading my poem “Naked”(basically about not making assumptions about people based on what is seen) and some guy in the crowd just shouted “You suck you f*****g pervert.”

I had the urge to hop off the stage and confront him right there, but I decided to wait it out until I had the chance to talk to him one on one and explain the meaning of the poem.

We’re actually cool to this day.

Earlier this year I was working for a company that went bankrupt. When it was announced, a lot of chaos erupted. Management did very little to console it’s employees (or clients), and we were all basically at the mercy of liquidators. For the next three months, things went downhill! The staff was expected to remain cordial and to continue work and maintain productivity with a smile for the next few weeks but everyone knew the reality of the situation, and as a result, people’s true colors really began to show. People who had invested their time into this company for years were being laid off in weeks without any severance, and no appreciation for their hard effort. Families livelihoods were being lost. Many altercations broke out, many people walked off of the job, and many were arrested for various crimes (mainly theft of company property). Throughout this tumultuous time, I sincerely did my best to remain positive and friendly as I had always been while working there, and continue to serve my job duties. It was a hard few weeks. I served to many of my colleagues as a venting post, a guidance counselor, a shoulder to cry on, not to mention that I continued to listened to and resolve complaints from concerned clients. As the final day of operation approached, the operation staff grew smaller and smaller. The final day of operation, I was 1 of 5 employees who actually showed up. Up until the final seconds of this company’s existence, I gave 100% to promote the morale in this environment, despite its decline. Although it seems like a lost cause, I’d like to think that this preservation of positive energy during such a stressful period served a purpose. I could have done like many of the others and been bitter, but I knew everything happens for a reason and something better would come along.
