On December 4th, 1969, one of the best rappers was born into this world. Today is Jay Z’s 40th birthday. I imagine he will either enjoy a nice quiet evening with his lovely wife, Beyonce, or party it up at the 40/40 lounge. (I just had to put the play on numbers, get it? Okay never mind) Jay Z has accomplished what many rappers can only dream of when and if they hit that age. I don’t want this to sound like a biography but turning 40 in the Hip Hop world will only bring on new ventures for Jay Z. Check me out after the jump
If we take a look at all the success that Jay Z has had we can come up with a list that includes being a co-owner of the New Jersey Nets (Still win-less by the way), co-owner of his own lounge, Rocawear clothing line, the Roc-A-Fella records, Roc Nation, and more. The list can go on and on. And he’s only 40. But in Hip Hop years, he’s old! I compare it to athletes. When athletes hit their late 30s it’s time to start thinking of other ventures and careers to get into. It was sad to see Michael Jordan retire twice. It was sad to see Brett Favre retire, come back, and then pretend to retire then come back again. Jay Z has already had done one of these, “I’m leaving” stories only to come back for the love of rap.
Yes he’s 40. But I think the road only begins here. Yes, his rap enemies will constantly call out his age, telling him to give up, and that he’s losing it, and he can’t connect with the generation that listens to that kind of music. But his enemies also know that he’s a walking legend. With all those achievements what do you think life after 40 will be like for Jay Z? I can imagine that he will have to look in the mirror within the next decade and give it up. But will he start to DJ at local clubs in NYC? Will he become a radio personality with his best friend Angie Martinez? Hov is not just just a legend but an icon.
Jay will forever be one of the greatest rapper of our generation and if not one of the most influential businessmen in hip hop history….even at 40 years old he’s still coming out with great music…Oh you aint know 40 the new 30….Happy bornday Hove
maybe in 20 yrs, jay will be the first successful SENIOR rapper– the first to rap about senior homes, walking canes, and healthcare. keep up the good work rickyG.
Let me first start by saying Happy Bday Jigga! You have accomplished a great deal in the 40 years god has blessed you with.He is a living example of how hard work & determination can pay off nomatter where or what you come from. Whatever he decides to do now that he is 40 I am sure it will be great. He continues to be a leader and a trendsetter for all the ages. His influence in the Hip Hop world can not be desputed and will live forever. Some people are just timeless and he is one of those people. All we can do now is continue to support him and be thankful for the roads that he paved for the up and coming new Generation. Most of his kind are dead and gone we are lucky to still have him around. I hope he Parties it up with his lovely wife Beyonce at the 40/40 club! And then goes home to enjoy a nice quite evening. He can have it all…He’s Jay-Z;-) Love you baby..Muah!
