Who Is XXL Putting In Freshman Class of 2010?
You may remember XXL’s (in)famous list of incoming freshman of 2009. The magazine did a huge feature on the artists that they felt were going to run ’09.
Ace Hood, CuDi, Curren$y, Wale, Asher Roth, B.o.B., Charles Hamilton, Cory Gunz, Blu, and Mickey Factz graced the cover, and the article was definitely the most discussed article of the year, sparking debates in dorm rooms, barbershops, and blogs & forums across cyberspace. Some of the artists stamped ’09 as theirs, while others unfortunately fell by the wayside. A few huge artists were even missed entirely by XXL, and they ended up being the breakout artists of the year (yes, I’m talking about that guy from Degrassi with the Lil Boosie fade.) It wasn’t perfect, but the idea that XXL was going for was a great effort. They got people talking, and put these artists in a position to prove themselves magazine cover-worthy.
Today, a “confidential” list leaked of the freshman of 2010 leaked to the internet. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Wowzers. Seems a little random to me. Who the hell is H-20, anyway? And while this guy claims that it’s fake, I wonder if there was any validity to it. Was it incomplete? Did it get into the wrong hands? Or did somebody with some Photoshop savvy do a little editing in his/her spare time?
Regardless of whether or not this list is fake, I want to know who you think should make XXL‘s 2010 Freshman Class list. I know, I know. Huge question. But I want to get the entire world talking on Dr. Jays Live today, so liven up your Friday and drop something in the comment section.
UPDATE: DrJays.com Live just received a letter from Vanessa Satten, XXL‘s Editor-in-Chief:
“I’m writing from XXL to let you know the email about XXL‘s 2010 Freshman Class is a fake list that did not come from our magazine.
“While we are flattered about the enthusiasm and heat The Freshman Class generates, this list did not come from XXL and was most likely created and leaked by someone in hopes of boosting their career.
“We are always on the lookout for the most promising artists who do, in fact, make it into XXL. The current issue of XXL (our double Dec/Jan 2010 issue with 50 Cent on the cover) is on stands now.”

Next time, check with XXL before you post and circulate bs. The rap media is to blame. Stop the hate, these kids are just trying to make it. Text messages and emails are alot better than paying for spins. Besides, I heard this was a X/Twenty conspiracy to get them both in the book.
H-20 was in Unsigned Hype a few months back, dunno how good he is tho
