Billboard named its top producers of the decade, and The Neptunes featuring Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo made the top of that list.

Billboard also named these following producers:

1 THE NEPTUNES
2 TIMBALAND
3 KANYE WEST
4 SCOTT STORCH
5 WILL.I.AM
6 JONATHAN “LIL JON” SMITH
7 STARGATE
8 BRYAN-MICHAEL COX
9 JERMAINE DUPRI
10 DR. LUKE

Billboard came to this conclusion by compiling:

Most of the decade-end music tallies in this special online section represent aggregated sales or radio airplay (audience impressions or total plays) for each artist and title from the weekly charts on which they appeared from the start of the 2000 chart year (Dec. 4, 1999 charts) though the end of the 2009 chart year (Nov. 28, 2009 charts).

Truth be told, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award, or recognition, than The Neptunes. I’ve been a big fan of their music and their production value has crossed nearly every corner of the music business and genre. The first song I absolutely loved that The Neptunes produced was “Use Your Heart” by SWV, they didn’t just produce this song, they wrote it as well. This gem came out in 1995 so they’ve been charting hits for nearly 20 years! Just in case you need a refresher…

What do you think? What about Just Blaze and Dream and a host of others? I know I’m missing some names but haven’t these guys been producing for a while already? I haven’t heard of Dr. Luke I know he’s not Uncle Luke. I’ve heard of Bryan-Michael Cox but I thought he was an actor? Same applies to Stargate, who’s that? And because I can’t help myself, the only “Stargate” I’ve heard of was the TV show *wakka wakka*

Here’s a recent interview Pharrell did with The New York Times Style Magazine:
