Trouble In Paradise For Beyoncé’s Parents?
Matthew, Beyoncé, and Tina Knowles
Just when you thought the marriage-ending scandals were done for 2009, another one has crept up.
This time, it’s the Knowles family. Tina Knowles, Beyoncé‘s mother and Creative Director of Deréon, has filed for divorce from her husband, Mathew Knowles. Although their daughter famously sings “Put A Ring On It,” their rings are coming off.
The Knowles’ marriage – just as any other – has had ups and downs. Those downs got bad enough that they caused the couple to separate for a while many years ago.
Beyoncé even seems to note her parents marital problems in one of her songs. In the unreleased track, “Lost Your Mind,” she refers to it unequivocally with one line: “I know how my mama felt, gettin’ ran over.”
Mr. Knowles, Beyonce’s manager, made headlines last month when actress Alexsandra Wright named Knowles as the father of her unborn child in a paternity suit. Wright says she is six months pregnant. This announcement, most likely, brought the 29-year union to a head.
With all the tabloid speculation and multiple mistresses coming out of the woodwork (no pun intended… seriously) to tell of their trysts with Tiger Woods, one might expect the same type of split from any couple.
However, although the rings are coming off, the gloves – it seems – will be staying on.
Mr. and Mrs. Knowles recently released a joint statement to the Associated Press, which said the following.
“The decision to end our marriage is an amicable one. We remain friends, parents, and business partners. If anyone is expecting an ugly messy fight, they will be sadly disappointed. We ask for your respect of our privacy as we handle this matter.”
Basically, they’re saying that they will not feed nor fuel any speculation or speak negatively about each other in the public because they are mature adults who realize that they will be connected – in one way or another – forever.
I find it quite refreshing to see a power couple split with both parties remaining dignified and civilized.
Whether this development will put strain on the business relationship Mr. Knowles has with his daughter has yet to be seen, but I highly doubt it. Beyonce should learn from Usher that it’s best to let those who know her best continue to market and manage her. Can you imagine Beyonce dropping an album equally as dismal as that Here I Stand nonsense?
Speaking of Usher, I guess now he won’t be the only one to sign “them papers.”
As crazy as everything has been, I’m sincerely hoping that no other scandals are revealed this year.
It seems that we, the fellas, need to utilize more self-control in 2010.
