Believe it or not, shoulder pads are back with full force.

Joan Collins in the 80s

Whereas many 80s trends get toned down for today’s market, this one is still quite extreme in certain cases. Leave it to Lady Gaga, of course, to take any trend to outrageous heights:

However, the look can be quite elegant, powerful, flattering and modern if its done right. Take Kim Kardashian‘s blazer seen below:

One of the reasons why shoulder pads became so popular in the 80s is because of the way they highlight a woman’s collar bone area, and make the rest of her frame appear smaller in contrast. They were seen in everything from prom dresses to business suits.

Is this going to far with 80s fashion trends, or could you see yourself incorporating this look in your wardrobe?

celebs are starting this dumb shoulder pad look so women can walk around thinkin its ok looking stupid and get jived on. celebs know this is trash, but they are getting paid to wear some of the stuff they wear. When the general public start wearing this crap, I wont be one of them.

I don’t like the shoulder pad look really.

Besides, if the point is to make the woman appear smaller, I’ll look like I’m drowning! (I’m 5’0”, 110 lbs)

  • I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100% certain. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank youRoofing of Fort Worth, 8100 Wallace Road, Fort Worth, TX 76135 – (817) 330-8100
