Style Report: Inside Fashion’s Tradeshow Season
This time of year in NYC is one of my favorites. Many of the best and brightest in the fashion industry from around the globe make their way into town for a gang of tradeshows, runway shows, and private viewings of some of the most innovative and classic collections and brands.
Team Flüd recently hit Los Angeles for the skate/streetwear influenced Agenda tradeshow. We were surrounded by good folks and great brands for the two-day show done out at Huntington Beach.
This month is also the Bread and Butter tradeshow in Berlin, Germany. A lot of good friends are gonna be traveling out there to handle biz and shout the latest that their line have to offer. I won’t be out there but my other brand, OCD: Obsessively Chasing Dollars jewelry definitely will be. We’ll be in the StyleSociety section if you’re around!
This week, we’ll be at Cargo Tradeshow previewing our 2010 wares for the East Coast buyers and brands that couldn’t make it out to Agenda. The Cargo crew are doing an awesome job with their intimate show. I remember when we did the first ever Cargo out of a bar on Essex a couple years back! Since then both FLuD and Cargo have expanded by leaps and bounds since that first tradeshow. FLuD is now available in over 15 countries worldwide and in over 300 stores nationwide. Cargo features some of the most respected names in street and urban wear including: Frank 151, Mishka, Greedy Genius, Sabit, amivectio, Milkcrate Athletics, Stall & Dean, triko, Wild Child Nation, and many more.
This week, a bunch of the homies are gonna be in town for the aforementioned Cargo and for what might be the premier contemporary/progressive streetwear show around: Capsule NY.
Many of my favorite brands will be showing at Capsule: Mosley Tribes, Tsovet Watches, Commonwealth Utilities, Red Wing Shoes, Nike sportswear and over a hundred other (mostly) awesome brands.
I’d also like to shout out some other brands that are gonna be across the pond for the early part of the year and that are doing it up really big: Check out my boy Mikol’s golf inspired line: Amongst Friends at Capsule (Paris). Also shouts to Jerome and his Parisian streetwear brand, Qhuit. They’ll be at the Who’s Next show, in Paris as well.
In February we travel out to lovely Las Vegas (shouts to the Spearmint Rhino! haha) for the S.L.A.T.E. tradeshow at MAGIC, inside the Mandalay Bay. We’re looking forward to showing the rest of our collection to all our buyers, friends, colleagues, and new folks we meet. AND let me keep it a hundred: we especially look forward to getting reacquainted with all the lovely strippers that the Strip has to offer. I miss ya’ll, ladies.
I’ll also be showing, OCD aka: Obsessively Chasing Dollars jewelry at The Guild Show in the Palms Place resorts. The Guild show is more of an upper tier boutique kind of show. Kinda like the gear and accessories that you’d find at a Shipps in Japan or Colette or Sons de Corset in Paris. Basically, a bunch of fly and expensive contemporary goodies.
I’d like to take the time out to send our Love and Prayers to all the folks dealing with it over in Haiti right now. Being a New Yorker and of Dominican decent, I’ve been really fortunate to meet and befriend some really good folks from Haiti and my heart’s out to them.
