One of the most successful musicians of all time, Diana Ross became a style icon for African American women from when she first broke out on the scene in the 60s.

The spotlight was on the Detroit born star from her days as the lead singer of The Supremes, when she was known for rocking thick black eyeliner, false eyelashes, frosty lips and flipped out hair.

During the 70s, Diana traded in her carefully done hairdos for an afro, and became the “epitome of disco style” as per Life.com.

The alluring diva may have changed up her style over the years, but one thing has remained true – Diana pushed the envelope in everything from her wild hair and makeup styles to her over-the-top ensembles.

In the 1975 move Mahogany, Diana wowed in extravagant gowns and ensembles that she designed herself:

Her style continues to make its mark even today, with celebrities like Beyoncé dubbing Diana as their personal style icons.

“Diana Ross was never safe but always sexy and glamorous and had her own individual style. She started a lot of different trends, but whatever she wore complemented her body”, Beyoncé told People.com.
