I think the whole thing was blown out of purportion. I mean the dude cheated on his wife with some females. He is a celebrity, extremely rich, always on the go, and gets a lot of attention. The thing that makes me upset about it is he didn’t cheat the game, do drugs, steal, kill, or have some gambling problem. He cheated people. How many people cheat? Millions. So for people to act like this is so uncommon and go at him the way they did is stupid. I mean the guy lost his sponsors and has had his career effected over cheating on his wife. Not the game. His wife. That is a personal matter and people in America need to learn how to stop being so credical about everything that goes down in the world. There is way more inportant stuff to worry about. I hope he comes back and shatters ever golf record that has to be shattered and makes all of you suck his D just like you used to.
The issue with it is that Tiger Woods is not just a person, he is a brand. His cheating tarnished that brand. I know that I, personally, do not condone cheating, no longer respect him, and thus, no longer want to support products that support him.
His infidelity affected way more people than just his wife. Besides his mother, in-laws, and most importantly, his children, it affected his fans, who not only admired him as an excellent golf player, but as someone who among the world of known cheaters, drug users, and gangbangers, was someone who actually had … get this… morals!
All in all, it was a major disappointment and Tiger should be ashamed of himself for the pain he placed his family through.
But the surprising thing is why is Tiger a “brand”? For me, if Tiger is endorsing golf clubs, I want to hear his opinion because he’s the best golfer. If he’s pimping Accenture, why would I care? Is he a business consultant / tax expert without par? Its amazing that fans get so involved with their idols beyond the scope of that idol’s expertise.
If someone like Prince were to say “use this guitar to get the purest sound”, then OK, I’d consider that product more carefully. If Prince said “these are the best basketball shoes to wear”, notwithstanding Dave Chappelle’s skit, I’m not rushing to the store to buy that.
Cee: And that’s true. Celebrities who are famous in a certain area should really only have an expert opinion in things they are experts in.
BUT that’s not how the celebrity world works. The public looks to those they admire to tell them where to eat, what to do, and what to wear because they respect that celebrity’s opinion. It’s the same as if a child were to want to wear the same thing mommy or daddy wears because that person holds a position of love and power in their eyes.
