Was Robert Pattinson Being Racist?
The internet is buzzing about Twilight star Robert Pattinson‘s recent interview with Details magazine.
The interviewer, Jenny Lumet, introduced the word “Negro” during it, and what Robert said afterward has caused a stir – but rightfully so?
You be the judge:
Interviewer: Rob, did you know that every time you say actor or acting you lower your voice to a whisper?
Rob: (He’s genuinely startled.) “I do?”
Interviewer: Yes, so quietly it’s like you’re saying Negro.
Rob: (He laughs, lightens up.) “What if we were ‘acting’ like ‘Negroes’? Then we’d be f**ked—we couldn’t hear anything. . . .”
Did you think Robert meant this in a racist way?
On another note, check out what he had to say about the “vaginas” surrounding him during the photo shoot:
“I really hate vaginas…I’m allergic to vagina. But I can’t say I had no idea, because it was a 12-hour shoot, so you kind of get the picture that these women are going to stay naked after, like, five or six hours. But I wasn’t exactly prepared. I had no idea what to say to these girls. Thank God I was hungover.”

What exactly do he mean by that statement? I really don’t want to call someone something their not,but he do need to clarify his statement.

Why do people even feel the need to talk about “negroes” in this interview in the first place??? Its completely unnecessary and the interviewer brought it up in the first place out of nowhere as if its okay to use that word as long as no one hears it, so that raises eyebrows for me and as a professional actor he should know how to respond to that statement without creating controversy. It’s 2010 people seriously…

is this guy a politician? he’s a teen idol…it doesn’t matter what he says. its a waste of energy trying to figure it out. in case ppl didn’t realize, since obama got elected, like it or not ppl don’t give a crap whether or not they offend you. instead of worrying about this why don’t we figure how to fix our own screwed up community. ppl get out of this haze we’ve been in since the 70′s really. no real progress since king died, just a lot of babies, drug, broken families, and ppl obsessed with “stuntin’”…we always debated the stupid ish, but never address a real problem.

hmm..i am not american AND ENGLISH IS NOT MY NATIVE LANGUAGE ,but i see nowadays white americans cannot say anything without being seen as racists…especially as (mega)stars…poor rob is mockened and insulted on many websites(like utube ) on this mistake by”afroamericans”and white ppl don t even dare to respond in his defence…love him even he is racist:)

I can read how Rob’s comment could be misconstrued as racist and when he later thought about it himself, he does too! Whether he’s racist or not is a question he has to answer. However, for those so quick to lable African American’s sensitive, and over reacting you might want to remember that black codes, jim crow, kkk, who are still around was not that long ago by historical time. Nigger, Negro, Kaffir is you are South Africa white, darky, and etc., are and were derogatory lables used to make people feel less than. I am not offended by Rob’s comment because I do not accept the labeling; however, people might want to consider that for some, disconnecting from lables that define them as ‘other’ might take some time, not only for those who identify themselves as African American, but for those who identify themselves as Whites. Deep down We all know that ‘race’ is a scientific contruct. It doesn’t deserve our emotions! Great acting Rob!

Stupid whitey your comment is understandable I mean look @ what your name means,first of all Rob aint American ,secondly why does he need defence if he did not make a racist comment in the first place?3I think the word shouldnt have been brought up in the first place in the conversation ,so the interviewer is like you STUPID!!!4 Rob had no way of answering that question I mean what would you have said?Oh I’m sorry wrong question to you…and 5 I am black and I do not at all think Rob was making a racist comment ok!The question was everytime you say the word acting you go in to a whwisper like you are saying negro,note that Rob did not whisper Negro and that he whispered the word actor,The interviewer used the word first ,now the intent was that the word Negro is derogatory to black people which it is so only stupid people woul speak out loud using that word…thats the first part NOW to Robs response ,If both the words were used at the same time in a setence like”acting like negroes” we definitley would be fucked because the whole sentence would be a load of whispers and we couldnt here a damn thang especially you stupid whitey!!!AND why are you saying white people are insulted since Obama was elected that is low even for a stupido like you ,what does Obama being elected have to do with this you just have issues and you know what?YOU ARE RACIST…try to defend that!!!!
i just wanted to say I don’t think rob is racist because I’ve seen a couple of interviews where he warms up to black interviewers more two come into mind in particular:
There’s one with I think ABC with in terviewer he’s met many time whom he has good relation with
The second is with a Detriot interview in which he says he loves the city
He’s also said on several occasions he loves old school hip hop and wanted to be a rapper.
In other interviews he’s talked about his love for Japan.
So I’m gathering from this interviews that he’s not a racist but made a poor joke and if anyone sees him interviewed you would realise he’s not good at them.
