Aaron McGruder, creator of the controversial yet hilarious animated series The Boondocks, tweeted back in December that once he got to 6,000 followers, he’d leak some sneak peaks to the upcoming season, which has been in a stalemate for much longer than anybody anticipated. Well, we at Dr. Jays Live have got the official good word that the third season premiere of The Boondocks will air on Sunday, May 2nd at 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Adult Swim.

After taking a two year hiatus, creative and executive producer McGruder announced on Twitter that the show finally secured a spot on Cartoon Network’s late night segment. This season brings back the incredibly hilarious vocal talents of Regina King as Huey and Riley Freeman, John Witherspoon as Granddad, Gary Anthony Williams (of “Boston Legal” fame) as Uncle Ruckus, Cedric Yarbrough (of “Reno 911″ fame) as Tom Dubois, and much more.

The show will return to the small screen continuing to provide the touchy, and oftentimes controversial, humor and situations for which the show has become infamous for. The third season will cover various topics that range from politics and mainstream media, to social norms and pop culture.

Have more questions about the upcoming season? Tweet the brainchild himself at @AaronMcGruder and see what he says. For now, enjoy these classic clips from the last two seasons.

*resisting the urge to spazz out on some all caps internet thug shit*

everyone is entitled to their own opinion but.. why do you think its trash? i dont know how anyone could think so having watched the series, theres at least one episode that each individual can appreciate..

  • I can’t see the Boondocks as being trash. However the comic strip is superior to the TV series in my opinion. Perhaps because it was more relevant in the sense that it could talk about current topics because it was updated weekly as opposed to waiting weeks/months for a new episode of a TV series.

Riley: What if he marries her?! What if we end up with a ho for a grandma?!
Huey: Tch – Riley, shut your dumb ass up!
Riley: What if we have a ho for a Grandma and she comes to school on Career Day?! Ooh – what if they have kids?! We have a brother, a sister that’s half-ho!
    Huey: Riley!!!

  • Modi says:

is the comic strip really better?

  • @walksworld says:

oooohhhhh buddy. this is big news right here!

  • @Modi It is absolutely better. He was taking shots at every politician, TV host, celebrity, and mom. If the comic strip was still going Tiger Woods would be getting it right now as would Shaq/Arenas, Lil Wayne, Lauren London, etc. He named names. I’m sure he’s going to bring the heat with this new season but the comic strip was so timely that he could give daily commentary on everything.

  • Modi says:

nah he wouldn’t get at wayne. he had wayne in his show for the katrina episode! literally, wayne did the voices.

  • Manny says:

The comic strip’s WAY better. There’s more Huey. Pick up A Right to Be Hostile, It’s a great compilation. Does McGruder have control over who does voices? Does anyone know what the hold up was?

  • Marcel says:

his show is great, i can’t wait.

  • Stizzy Staxx says:

well damn me and muh girl gonna go nuts on this

  • Atarrah j says:

This is arguably one of my fav shows. It’s entertaining and every episode is designed for a different partake on urban and even American life.I’m still anticipating the new episodes,Tthough we’ve waited for 2 years. This show is just very refreshing and will actually give me a reason to watch TV.

  • K. C. says:

man anybody that thinks THE BOONDOCKS is trash i guess shouldn’t watch it. i mean i have to say it’s not for everyone. but its for me;lol. nothing’s good for EVERYONE. i don’t particularly like the Simpson’s, but i wouldn’t call it trash, for fear i’d offend someone.
