We’re all aware 2010 is all about change. “New era and new generation. It’s much more than a year, its also a new decade. The music and direction in this project symbolizes that to me,” says New York rapper Donny Goines on his new mixtape, 20x. Goines partnered with Rocksmith Tokyo, a brand sold on our site, for this release.

Donny was born in Manhattan and surrounded by hardships in his personal life (his father was incarcerated and his mother battled a drug addiction), which caused him to grow up early in the gritty streets of Philly, the Bronx and Harlem. But Donny is honest about his past. “I dropped out of high school in the 9th Grade and decided to get my GED when I was 16. I was always cutting school, getting into trouble and things just seemed to be getting out of control as I got older, so I decided to join the military at age 20.” His years in the Navy were filled with conformity and limitations of artistic expression. “After serving a few years I came back to New York and decided to pursue rap seriously around the age of 25. I haven’t looked back since.”

Donny realized the internet could connect him to a similar tribe of individuals who could offer guidance on his musical journey. He linked up with the late Disco D, the producer behind such hits as Nina Sky‘s “Turning Me On” and 50 Cent‘s “Ski Mask Way,” who became his mentor. After his passing, Donny continued to grind, using the internet as an outlet to spread his music and gain a global fan base.
