Has Nicki Minaj Gone Too Far Biting Lil Kim’s Style?
The past tense of “I had bitches rockin’ the red, yellow and green wigs”—a Lil Kim lyric from “White Diamonds” back in 2000—may need to be updated.
Ten years since Kim spoke on her hip-hop trendsetting, the game’s new femme fatale Nicki Minaj hit 106 & Park yesterday with a new look to debut the video for her new single, “Massive Attack”.
Rocking a bright green wig (she also wears one in the video), skintight dress and platform heels, Nicki looks like the 2.0 version of Kim in 1997′s “Crush On You” (check the classic video below):
While predecessors like Remy Ma and Trina have given Nicki their co-sign, Kim’s silence on Nicki’s growing success perhaps is the most telling (and speaks the loudest).

The first time I heard the song, I wasn’t really feeling it. Now hearing it again, it grew on me.
The video is also really nice too. I really liked it. It was fun, creative, and quirky. I also was reminded a little bit of AALIYAH from her “We Need A Resolution” video.
But gosh, her ass is just too distracting for me. It just looked so weird I kept staring at it every time they showed that side profile.

I like Nicki and all but to answer the question. YES, this is too much. Kim was infamous for rockin’ the red, green, and blue wigs. Also, Nicki’s declaration of Barbie and wearing the Barbie chain pisses me off as Kim has been calling herself the Black Barbie for years. Nicki has talent but I don’t see what she is doing as an homage to Kim. She is straight swagga jackin’ Kim’s style and I am losing respect for this artist by the day. She needs to find her own style or go the fvck away.
Nicki copied Lil Kim’s whole formula… its kool but nicki needs to admit it…. so far all i seen her do is copy, copy, copy…. but cant say Lil Kim influenced me…. it seems nicki is the real hater!!!!!
