Has Usher Lost His Mind?

Submitted by on April 1, 2010 – 8:38 am2 Comments

The recently divorced Mr. Raymond (whose first name is pronounced UR-sher in the South) just dropped a new video for his next single, “OMG,” featuring will.i.am. Let’s just say it’s not what you might expect. Find out more after the jump.

We at DrJays think we have this one figured out. Usher’s 2004 album, Confessions, was one of the greatest R&B albums ever made. Simply put, it’s tough to follow. It seems to be his magnum opus (or greatest work) and everything else he has ever done – or will ever do – has been judged by that standard.

Plenty of artists have been troubled by the fact that many believe their undeniable classics came years earlier in their careers.

Like whom, you ask?

50 Cent

After 50′s monumental Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, we haven’t heard the same potency or the same swag from him. While his net worth may be rising, his record sales are going in the opposite direction.

While some see him as the greatest of all time, many have been looking for the second coming of the quintessential Illmatic for over a decade now (and of course there’s the whole “one hot album every ten year average” line).

The point of all this, of course, is that Usher is not alone among high profile artists who seem to lack direction and focus since their greatest offerings.

See? We understand Usher’s dilemma. What we don’t understand is why he chose to go in this direction.

His new video is posted below. Both visually and sonically, I’d definitely say his latest single pushes the envelope.

In fact, it pushes the envelope so far that you may wonder what he was thinking.

Usher’s latest album, Raymond v. Raymond, was released March 30.

Will Usher’s latest take the industry by storm? What do you think of his new album? Let us know in the comments section!
