Teairra Mari Hits Harlem To Find “Sponsors”

Even though she’s adamant the song isn’t simply about having a man to pay for the finer things in life, Teairra Mari‘s “Sponsor” definitely lends itself to that theory.

With lyrics like “I tell him baby thanks a lot/My sponsor he go and bu-bu-buy” and “He ain’t no square/He just likes to share,” Teairra won’t outright say the song (featuring Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy) is about finding a sugar daddy. Instead, she describes a sponsor as being “anyone or anything you get your money from—could be your employer, your lady, whomever.”

Teairra’s currently in New York promoting “Sponsor” and her upcoming album, At That Point (due for release in May via Asylum/Warner Music). Putting a fun spin on things, yesterday the DrJays.com Live team took Teairra uptown to Harlem’s 125th Street to ask locals their thoughts on whether or not a man should be a woman’s “sponsor.” Needless to say, hilarity ensued!

Check back soon for video footage of our time in Harlem with Teairra Mari. In the meantime, take a look at these behind-the-scenes pics:
