Smarten Up Nas…Or Good For Kelis?
Depending on which side you’re on, yesterday was either a huge loss or major win for one of hip-hop’s once-great couples.
Earlier this year, Kelis filed papers saying Nas hasn’t contributed a cent towards spousal support or child support of their son Knight, despite the fact he was originally ordered to pay approx. $55,000 a month.
According to documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court yesterday, Nas was ordered to immediately pay over $47,249.42 in backdated child support and $40,454 in backdated spousal support.
The judge wasn’t finished there. Nas was also ordered to pay $10,000 per month in spousal support until he pays off the current $299,015.50 he owes Kelis, plus he has to pay 90 percent of her legal fees in the amount of $155,787.28.
Lastly, Nas has to pay $48,549.83 to cover Kelis’ accounting expenses.
Overwhelming support (and more than a few jokes) towards Nas has been seen across Twitter since news broke, with comedians like Lil Duval going in with his “#ihopekelis” trending topic:
Back in June 2009, Kelis took to Twitter herself to blast “cheaters.” Many think Nas’s yet-to-be-revealed behavior could be the cause for the relationship to unravel in the first place.
