Battle Of The Album Covers: Kelis Vs Janelle Monae
Residing in a world that lacks creativity and is increasingly populated with Beyoncé and Lady Gaga clones, two truly great performers are releasing new albums. To enhance their fans’ musical experience, original cool kid Kelis and her heir-apparent Janelle Monae have debuted some of the freshest album artwork we’ve seen in years.
Kelis aims to reinvent herself with her upcoming fifth album, Flesh Tone. The noted fashionista takes a bold stance here, draped in a metal-and-pearls headpiece (complete with long, gray side braid) with matching bustier, and photographed by Rankin. The album (her first in nearly four years) includes the number one dance single “Acapella” and features production from David Guetta, Free School, Boys Noize and Benny Benassi. It hits stores on May 17 in the UK and July 6 in the US.
Protége of Diddy and Big Boi, Janelle Monáe also takes a bold stance on the cover of her full-length debut album, The ArchAndroid (in stores May 18). Known to her dedicated fan base as an alien from outer space, Janelle takes on the form of an android with a flawless face and robotic features. Her single “Tight Rope” featuring Big Boi is climbing steadily up the charts; Janelle is definitely leaving her mark on pop culture.

I’ve only seen Janelle Monae live like 3 times lol, and i LOVEEEE HER, I love Kelis too so this is like choosing between diamonds and gold, both have a good worth.
I gotta give it to Janelle, I adore her.
I agree – not that there really needs to be a competition, but Janelle Monae is A-mazing. This album cover is gorgeous and it has a very unique and captivating history. Can’t wait to get this album on May 18th!!
Best of luck to the both of them.
Janelle… Even without me having favoritism or being biased lol.
