James Cameron’s second number one grossing film of all times was recently released on DVD and Blu-Ray, and if you thought folks were hype to see this on IMAX, after the jump, check out how much Jimmy and company are on pace to break another record.

Film company 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment announced via Coming Soon that Avatar sold 6.7 million DVDs and Blu-Ray discs in the U.S. and Canada. Even more amazing is the feat of selling so many DVDs in just the first four days of release. The film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, and Sigourney Weaver, and is credited for being the inspiration behind the growing 3-D craze.

The studio does go on to break down the sales, stating that four million DVDs and 2.7 million Blu-Rays have made it to homes across the globe grossing $130 million in sales. Cameron is shattering records left and right as Avatar mirrors the previous record holder (The Dark Knight) for a similar time frame back in 2008, although it took Chris Nolan’s film 18 months to see 2.5 million Blu-Rays.

Earning $2.713 billion at the worldwide box office, it’s safe to say that folks were heading to stores to buy Avatar for its uniquely colored visuals and interesting story. Whispers have begun to circulate about a sequel, but with folks looking to get their Na’Vi fix, look for this number to jump in the next few weeks as the NBA Playoffs continue its Avatar advertising campaign.

For those without a Blu-Ray player but who have an HDTV with 1080i (or P), it’s like having peanut butter and jelly with no bread. Check out this link if you want to buy a reasonably priced player to watch all your Blu-Ray goodies on! Lastly, if there is anyone who HASN’T seen this movie, don’t be ashamed—no one is going to make fun of you (much). Check out the HD trailer for Avatar below.
