Canvas sneakers have been getting plenty of run this season. With new age selections from Vans, Sperry and even Nike, it sometimes pays to roll with a classic, with a twist. Enter Converse’s Jack Purcell Sailcloth Ox.

The Jack Purcell—originally designed to be a badminton shoe, really—has long been a more sophisticated alternative to the ubiquitous Chuck Taylor All-Star. This particular model replaces the usual canvas material with woven sailcloth. The navy and white upper is supported by clear outsoles that feature images of various flags.

Oh yeah, while most Jack Purcell’s will cost you about $60, tag on another $100 for these.

Definitely a conversation starter, but are they worthy of the premium cost?
