Get The Look: The Outsiders
Adapted from the novel by S.E. Hinton, the 1983 blockbuster, The Outsiders, told an intense and tragic tale of two gangs growing up in Oklahoma: the “Greasers” and the “Socs.”
The star-studded cast includes Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe and more.
Although the gangs are divided by their social statuses, one thing they have in common is their rebellious, dark, rugged wardrobes. Slim-fitting jeans, flannel, plain tees, biker jackets and lots of denim (cut-off vests, jeans and jackets) are just some of the pieces seen on these tortured young men. Shades of grey, navy, steel blue, burgundy, brown and black dominated this picture, and added to the moody feel of the film.
As with many looks from the 1980s, the utilitarian style in this film has made a comeback in recent years. It’s that laid back, contemporary biker/workwear look. Less harsh, more boyish and thrown-together.
