I don’t know what the rest of the world did when they heard the My Chick Bad remix but I was thinking one thing. OK, I was thinking several things: 1. This video is actually kind of cool. 2. I have a beef with music videos because back in the day (2000’s) videos had a story whereas now it seems as though videos focus on flying money, video girls who look extremely bored, and rented cars. But I digress. The other main thought I had was, Eve’s back!! Not to undermine the talent of the other ladies in the video but Eve has always been one of my favorite rappers. We so often talk about “female rappers” and immediately list off Lil Kim, Foxy, and Trina. The end. Nicki Minaj has recently been included in that list, but what about Eve?

Yes, she’s been on hiatus for quite some time now. A quick history on Eve: She came on the scene with the 1999 anthems, “Love is Blind” and “What Y’all Want.” From that point on, she had a steady stream of hits including, “Who’s That Girl,” “You Got Me,” “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” and “Gangsta Lovin.” Then, minus sporadic guest spots on hit songs, she disappeared from the music scene and focused on her clothing line, Fetish, and her TV show, Eve.

But now the My Chick Bad remix forces everyone to ask, “Where’s Eve?” Was this yet another random guest spot or is Eve be back in the game? She’s supposed to release an album this year entitled Lip Lock. Will this reinstate her as one of the foremost female rappers?
