Christian Rich collaborated with Y-O from the left coast duo U-N-I, to give us some quality music that’ll likely be in rotation in that iTunes library heavy until you get the rest of the tape. It has this reggae/ska/dub feel to it, and the hook is something you’ll be humming in your kitchen while you’re cooking or walking around the city whistling. “The artwork meaning is simple. It’s about the word “Decadence,” which in part means decay, but also an uprising. So the cover depicts a world where the people at the bottom are decaying and the people closer to the top are rising, hence a new start. As you see, the creatures at the bottom are crying and sad, while the ones above them are smiling and crying tears of joy. We tried to recreate a fictional world to set the tone for “The Decadence.“
There you have it. Reminds me a bit of ‘Ye’s Graduation album art, as well as the illustration style from Fern Gully. The Decadence is hosted by Clinton Sparks and Mick Boogie, and will feature Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, Peter, Bjorn and John, DJ Benzi, U-N-I, and more. It drops May 31st, so mark your calendars!

The artwork seems like a regurgitation of what is already happening. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Nothing new here although it was a good try. Aesthetically it’s cool though.

I love the idea of ‘decadence’. There will always be people at the bottom of the ladder and people working their way up to the top. this is the epitome of life. when your down it feels as though you’ll never be up again. and when your up it feels as though you’ve never been down. gotta take the good with the bad. life is what you make it and it all depends on your attitude and how hard you’re willing to work to get what you want.

I don’t think Christian Rich were trying to reinvent the wheel here, but rather flip a great idea into another great idea. Like you said, it’s aesthetically cool- therefore you’re diggin it. Also, it’s not necessarily about the rich and poor. It’s about the people who work hard and the people who settle for mediocrity. People that fail (decay) and people that succeed (rise). Out with the old and in the with new. Take what you want in this world.
The artwork is cool, it’s like a combination of Takashi Murakami (artist for ye’s graduation) and the Gorillaz. As far as the song, I’m not completely sold, I feel like the chorus is a little disjointed from the rest of the song, but it’s definitely good enough to whet my appetite for the rest of the album.
Personally, I can’t wait for this tape to drop. I liked Hello Virgin, and I love this. I kind of hope they include Famous Girl but that’s probably in vain. Anyways, you’ve been making th rounds ain’t it Modi? I’ve seen this on three sites so far lol, not including CR’s own.
