Nas & Kelis’s Marriage Is Officially Over
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the marriage between Nas and Kelis is officially over—but that doesn’t mean they’re done fighting the war. Kelis originally filed for divorce back in April 2009 (when she was seven months pregnant) so things between the duo have been anything but amicable for a long time. With custody and spousal allowance battles still on deck, we haven’t heard the last from these two.
Kelis has incurred the disdain of hip-hop fans everywhere because of what is perceived as unreasonable financial support demands on her end. Nas is currently under a court order to pay the singer more than $10,000 a month in spousal allowance alone, an amount he’s petitioning the court to reduce because, according to his lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan, he makes substantially less than the amount the support order was based on. During an interview with VIBE earlier this month, Nas also claimed trying to spend time with their now 10-months-old son Knight has been “hell.” Outside of Swizz Beatz and Mashonda, this will probably go down as the ugliest divorce hip-hop has ever seen.
